People love threatening to murder people for legally riding bikes. Of course drivers regularly hit cyclists riding in painted bike lanes or shoulders. It's almost like motorists don't need any excuse to inflict violence upon bicyclists.

I am a mom and scientist begging everyone to look closer at the muck. We’ve been conditioned to see wetlands as wastelands. But three decades of research, I see a fiercely defiant wilderness. The boreal mire is a dynamic carbon-trapping vault that in some places has outlasted ice ages. 1/

Dammit. I don't want to watch a four hour movie in a theater, but I might have to because I'd like to add to the number of people he knows are laughing at him in public.

It's fascinating, to me, how many columns and articles were written after Biden's withdraw from Afghanistan about the looming humanitarian catastrophe that Biden caused and how many fewer were written about Trump slashing US humanitarian aid still being sent there from $3B/year to $0 in 2025.

one of the most mind-melting things about this moment is how so much of the media and popular discourse politely ignores or is very vague about the blindingly obvious fact that Trump has rapidly-worsening dementia www.cnn.com/2026/09/08/p...
“For nine months, rescue and recovery crews worked day and night on the site. I want to just thank my people; I took a lot of my me(n) — I was building a big building in New York, and I took the whole crew down there right after this happened,” he said. “And they were — they had no hesitation — everybody went down with me. We went down, it was a big group of people. Wasn’t too much we could do, I’ll be honest — it was, you know, it was raw, and nobody’s seen anything like it, ever. We had other buildings; the United States Steel building was creaking, really creaking, and we thought it was going to fall down; the truth is it creaked a lot, it creaked. It still creaks. But it never came down, and I re(member) — I’ll never forget two firemen. We thought it was coming down on top of us, and two firemen — big, strong guys — and I’m not the smallest guy in the world — they grabbed me under the arms, said, ‘Gotta get out of here.’ And they literally lifted me up. This is not easy to do. I’m big. They lifted me up and they started running with me. I said, ‘Fellas, I can run myself.’ But they were amazing, but they thought it was coming down; it didn’t come down. US Steel.”

Really good thread here! There are a lot of autoimmune diseases in my family, and there are times we know more about some things than our doctors do. Yes, I trust modern medicine. Also, I know that doctors are human and don't know everything and there's more to learn. It's a tricky balance!

Discworld QOTD, from Men at Arms
The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money.
Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars.
Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.
But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.
This was the Captain Samuel Vimes 'Boots' theory of socioeconomic unfairness.

Labor Day is about unions. Unions built the middle class. You can’t support the middle class without supporting unions. Massively powerful companies & their politicians spend LOTS of money telling you not to support unions. Because it’s the only thing they fear. Happy Labor Day

Milo Yiannopoulos: "I didn't really understand the physical reality of how institutionalized the brutality is in America. The manner in which they arrest you, they put you in manacles, everybody is arrested like an MS 13 gang member.
It was physically degrading. It was frightening. I don't think I've ever been frightened like that before. I was weeping like an old woman for an hour. I wouldn't wish it on anyone."

It’s mind-blowing that we have literal white nationalists in the White House carrying out unfathomably cruel, abusive, white nationalist policies, and the punditariat has spent the last two weeks debating if some people were too intemperate after a Black man was murdered by cops six years ago.
