Forgot to share this yesterday Happy March, everyone.
Tommy Wiseau, a still from The Room movie, only instead of saying, "Oh, hi, Mark" he's saying "Oh, hi, March" and someone had placed a graphic of a leprechaun's hat on his head

People talk a big game of 'oooh hardship and societal disruption make art' no they don't they make artists fear for their lives and struggle to do even the most basic of tasks, let alone write about what's happening to them and loved ones to ensure society has access to that info.

this was not a pickle i expected to find myself in this morning, but luckily it only took two pages of a google search to find something with a promising answer! i think the tl;dr is its just what's most commonly used, and it sounds good/maybe has a nice feeling of parallelism being subject/subject

Meet the colonial #hydroid Schuchertinia milleri, aka Miller hydractinia, hedgehog hydroid, or (my fave) snail fur. It ranges from Vancouver Island down to Monterey Bay. I've only spotted it a few times while #tidepooling, and it's a treat every time!
A cluster of Schuchertinia milleri hydroids. They're pink, and the longest ones are up to 5 mm (0.2 in) tall with a ring of 12 to 20 tentacles surrounding the mouth.A zoomed-out view of the previous photo, which shows more of the cluster of Schuchertinia milleri hydroids.

Reading the interviews of Gabriel García Márquez and this passage stands out to me, from the 1970s but relevant in this time, that in this era the fight must be for collective happiness, which as he astutely describes, is the only kind of just happiness
GARCÍA MÁRQUEZ: I don't know who the hell it is that's ended up convincing us—the people who want to start a revolution-to accept the idea that revolution is apocalyp-tic, catastrophic, and bloody. We need to grasp once and for all that it's counterrevolution that's apocalyptic and catastrophic and bloody. You already know the figures: more than thirty thousand dead, thousands im-prisoned, thousands tortured by the leaders of the Chilean military coup.
My idea of revolution is of the search for individual happiness through collective happiness, which is the only just form of happiness.

I've been researching the idea of Unconditional Universal Basic Income since 2013. Here's a collection of findings I've compiled from various UBI experiments and studies of cash transfer programs around the world. This will be a VERY LONG and ongoing thread focused entirely on empirical evidence. 🧵
OBSERVED EFFECTS OF UBI

No significant reduction in labor supply (38 studies meta-analysis)

Increased self-employment (301%) and part-time employment (17%)

Slight decrease in alcohol and tobacco use (31 studies meta-analysis)

New mothers extend their maternity leaves

Birth weights improve due to better maternal nutrition

Graduation rates and educational outcomes improve

Hospitalization rates decline (8.5%)

Crime goes down (15%–42%) especially illegal hunting (95%)

Domestic violence decreases (30%–51%)

Trust increases (13% in politicians | 6% in other people)

Home ownership rates increase (17%–26%)

Food security increases as does consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables

Improved cognitive functioning (43%) and personality traits (31%)

Savings go up, debts go down

A seed or acorn cap with tiny, translucent porcelain crabs inside of it. The cap is being held in someone's fingers, and there are at least nine tiny crabs visible inside of it.A closer view of the previous photo, looking down into a seed or acorn cap with tiny, translucent porcelain crabs inside of it. There are at least 11 crabs visible. An even closer photo of the previous two photos. We can now only see part of the inner seed or acorn cap with four tiny translucent porcelain crabs fully or partially visible.

Write that thing. Pluck it outta your soul with rusty pliers. Hit the keyboard like it owes you money. Write whenever, wherever you can. Tell your story. Make the words dance. Whatever you want—a novel, a short story, an agent, a movie—it all starts with the writing.
