An in vivo resource of age-regulated C. elegans intestinal secretory-pathway proteins highlights secreted enzymes associated with lifespan regulation
Miklas et al. characterize age-related C. elegans intestinal secretory-pathway proteins using proximity labeling tools and in vivo proteomics. They identify a conserved secreted phosphatase, ACP7, that extends lifespan in a secretion- and phosphatase-dependent manner. This resource highlights the role of extracellular enzymes in regulating lifespan.

Aging may feel gradual… but what if it’s not? In our recent paper, we tracked fish continuously from puberty until death. This gave us a unique view of how aging unfolds across the adult lifespan. 🧵

Fat storage in the body relies on specialized structures called lipid droplets. In a new Science study, researchers identified the microprotein adipogenin as a regulator of adipocyte lipid droplet size, revealing a key mechanism in lipid homeostasis. Learn more this week: scim.ag/4nFEGO7
Lipid droplet growth is orchestrated by the seipin complex, which provides a structural platform for droplet nucleation and expansion. The microprotein adipogenin fine-tunes seipin’s conformation, remodeling its architecture to regulate lipid storage capacity. This modulation results in the formation of fewer but larger lipid droplets, revealing a key mechanism in lipid homeostasis.

Excited to share my postdoc work @olzmannlab.bsky.social! We found lipid droplets, the cell’s lipid storage depots, are subject to oxidative damage and are protected by FSP1. Loss of FSP1 triggers droplet peroxidation and cell death, revealing a new layer of lipid quality control! shorturl.at/B5XYD
