After voting, YIMBY Action leads couldn't reach a consensus on Prop 45, and won't be making an endorsement! This means that not a single YIMBY org in California is endorsing the measure (with one opposed). CEQA "reform" for sprawl & freeways is bad! Glad most of us recognize this. No on 45!

An immigration judge has ruled that Salah Sarsour, president of Wisconsin's largest mosque, can be deported under a Cold War-era law.

Sarsour, a U.S. permanent resident for nearly three decades and American Muslims for Palestine board member, was targeted by the Trump administration over his advocacy.

Detained by ICE in March 2026, Sarsour was freed in June after a federal judge cited likely unlawful retaliation. Officials then fast-tracked a separate immigration track, where Judge Jayme Salinardi deemed him removable.

DHS alleged Sarsour lied on forms and funded terror groups, citing 1989 Israeli military court convictions. Sarsour denied the claims, stating was forced, under torture and threat of rape, to sign documents in Hebrew without understanding them.

He ultimately spent two years in an Israeli prison after being convicted in a military court system that has a conviction rate of over 96% for Palestinians.

His lawyers called the ruling a setback for free speech, while Sarsour vowed to keep fightin

Some data from the upcoming city Planning Commission confirming what we already knew: way too many people who work in Charlottesville do not live in Charlottesville. Albemarle County, the city of Charlottesville, and UVA have created a perfect storm of high housing costs and long commutes.
Regional Considerations
The following data and key takeaways were provided by Hamilton Lombard (Demographer):
• An increasing share of the Charlottesville region's workers live outside of Albemarle County and the City of Charlottesville. Of the 352 U.S. urban areas with 100,000+ population, only the Boulder MSA has a higher % of daytime population change, which is from in-commuters;
Charlottesville MSA is second highest.
• The availability of relatively higher income jobs within the Charlottesville area (e.g. healthcare, finance, biotech) along with the relatively lower cost of housing in surrounding localities and regions, is one of the reasons for this trend. This is occurring along with workers who are unable to afford the cost of housing in the Charlottesville area and therefore live further away.

Well, what I always say, "I just want everybody to be treated good." I try not to get into the politics of everything. I try to get into the human element of it. I have some of everybody in my own immediate family and in my circle of employees. I've got transgender people. I've got gays. I've got lesbians. I've got drunks. I've got drug addicts — all within my own family. I know and love them all, and I do not judge.

And I just see how broken-hearted they get over certain things and I know how real they are. I know how important this is to them. That's who they are. They cannot help that any more than I can help being Dolly Parton, you know, the way people know me. If there's something to be judged, that is God's business. But we are all God's children and how we are is who we are.

My god. This is moral vacuum behavior: treating being a parent as a recreational activity. Honestly, having been through it three times over, the “low-joy tasks” are what build trust. Want your kid to know you’re there for them? Be there & be reliable for the hard, unfun, dirty parts.
As a mother of two, there are certain tasks Christine Landis won't do. She has never clipped her children's toenails-too anxious for that, she said, so the nanny handles it. Most nights, the family assistant takes care of bath time. Landis also hands off what she calls "repetitive play," reading the same book five times or watching zer toddler open and close a door for 45 minutes.

To make this possible, Landis, who lives in San Diego, spends roughly $250,000 a year running a household staff that includes a family assistant who lives on the property, a weekend nanny, a personal chef and a housekeeper.

One nanny isn't cutting it anymore. Wealthy working parents like Landis are employing teams of people to handle the work of raising their children, including specialists to potty-train their toddlers, teach their kids to ride a bike, manage school applications and pack their trunks for summer camp. Call it CEO parenting: treating the modern family as a small enterprise and delegating low-joy tasks.
