2) Cops aren’t supposed to execute guilty people either. They know this, and manage to apprehend actual mass shooters all the time when they’re white men.

The guilt or innocence of the person makes no difference, in two senses. 1) When cops kill an innocent person, they always make up some horrific crime that they thought the person was committing. They called Renee Good a terrorist before they even knew what happened or reviewed the video.

We have had recent public executions, that’s not really the new part. What makes this evoke additional types of outrage is that it’s being planned in advance and they’re extremely proud of it.

I think a lot of people were surprised that there are no ethical rules against judges hearing cases where the person who appointed them is a named defendant. Seems like an obvious point to include in any court reform.

Honestly some of the shibboleths are useful as red flags. You just know that anyone who unironically mentions “Super Intelligence” or “Lake America” is an enthusiastic licker of the president’s boots.

For real I think he should start talking about excommunicating anyone who allows executions to go forward. It needs to be really fucking uncomfortable to be conservative and catholic in positions of power.

I personally don’t give a fuck about what the pope thinks is or is not pro life, but if he can convince the VP or anyone on the Supreme Court that capital punishment is against their religion, we’ll take it.

It’s interesting to me that he wants to go so far back that it ends up being a time when there wasn’t anywhere near as much immigration enforcement.

I think it's closer to the truth that LLMs *can* save time on *some tasks* which can be valuable *if* you monitor them and check their output. But that doesn't get you a trillion dollars so they have to squint into the middle distance and say stupid sci fi bullshit instead

It’s currently SO HARD to find time to run or ski in the winter in Minnesota Some trails are lit, but other than that you just have headlamps.

Yeah, same. Year round DST would add an hour of sunlight per day to a lot of places that barely have any afternoon daytime for people with 8-5 jobs. Who are not driving in the daylight in the morning anyways.

keegan (they/them) @keegatron.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
If we do away with daylight saving time, there will be places in Michigan where the sun rises at like 4 in the morning in the summer. Nobody needs the daylight then.

keegan (they/them) @keegatron.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
“It’ll be dark in the morning when people go to school and work” Yeah, no shit. It’ll probably be dusk when they get home too. When there’s 9 hours of daylight not everyone gets to commute in daylight.

TBH I don’t think people who live south of about 40°N should have a say in the daylight savings time debate.

This should be so obvious that it doesn’t need to be said, but given what kind of weekend it’s been on here, apparently it does: If you don’t want old rapists running the world, in office, in the board room, making decisions for all of us get comfortable with “ruining” young rapists’ lives

Saying that a person who did a bad thing is just a bad person is a thought terminating cliché. It's a way for us to pretend that bad acts are aberrations and not predictable, controllable outcomes. And frankly, it's also bioessentialist claptrap.

I think there are times when calling in bullies with guns is the only responsable option but you have to keep in mind all the times they escalate the violence beyond the perpetrator.

I have to say, I’m a little uncomfortable with how fast everyone jumps to “call the police” as a solution. The police can make any situation worse.

And we can also have conversations about improvements that could be made under the current system without implying approval of the status quo, and without needing to state that if we had to build the whole thing from scratch, a lot of things should be done differently.

keegan (they/them) @keegatron.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
Anyways, I think there’s value in pointing out how our flawed system is “supposed” to work, as well as how many times not even that low standard is being met.

keegan (they/them) @keegatron.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
Plenty of things are technically illegal but rarely punished, or technically not the correct process but functionally how it’s done. Pointing this out does not mean the person thinks the status quo is morally good or in the best interests of society and justice.

keegan (they/them) @keegatron.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
One bit of nuance that I think gets lost in political hot takes is the gap between the existing system or laws vs describing the de facto reality on the ground.

Trump is more similar to the character of the Antichrist though. Like I’m a little surprised Christians fall for his act, but the prophecy foretold that even the righteous will be led astray or whatever.

Volkswagen TDIs held this spot for decades with the caveat that they were never great in terms of emissions. But now with the cost of diesel they’d have to get 50% better MPG that a similarly equipped gas vehicle, and they simply don’t.

Let’s be honest, if it were legal or he actually did it, there’s basically no chance anyone in Minnesota would get the $5k. The entire second administration has been dedicated to punishing states that don’t lick his boots enough. They’d find a way to not pay in certain states.
