Finally finished reading this (my fatigue and poor focus have meant I've been reading a lot less than I typically read per year and the size of this one was daunting). Absolutely LOVED it, can see why it's been so popular. Perfect fictional reading for a japanophile / foodlover!

Florence advice please: 1) I assume it's best to prebook tickets for the main sites, the Duomo, Uffizo, Accademia etc? 2) Do I need to prebook train from Rome to Florence as well? I'd prefer not to in case flight is delayed but if they're always fully booked, I guess I had better?

Made Pete get up and out of the house with me early so we could drive into Abergavenny for 8.30 am when Ty Melin opens so I could be sure to get one of the cheese truffle sourdough loaves they posted on their Insta yesterday as weekend specials! On our way back from lunch with the pseudo-niece followed by a big shop at Wing Yip. Bought her loads of food but loads for us too. I'm most delighted with my two tins of mooncakes for half price, have a fairly long date on them so all good.

Last night's dinner was this fabulous Lamb Bāgu from Tim Anderson's JapanEasy Kitchen. As he explains in the recipe intro, it's not uncommon in Japan for ready made curry roux (that you can buy in blocks) to be adjusted with the addition of extra seasonings to add further depth of flavour. #foodsky
