My family in Italy made a section of their garden in memory of my teenager. I’m going to visit them in Lucca soon. I’m hoping to explore a more trans friendly part of Italy by visiting Bologna if I can afford to be away that long. If anyone has recommendations/knows anyone in the area, let me know!

That Italy vs US game was wild! #fibawwc I kept expecting the US to pull away and it never happened. I think they’ll make all the right adjustments (and not shoot as poorly as that) for the next games… but now I’m a little invested in Italy and want them to make it out of the group.

Reading out loud with my kids was absolutely central to our family life. They both loved Diane Duane’s Young Wizards… the wizards in these books are good people. The kids are curious and learning about the magic underlying life on their own terms. And there’re no anti-trans vibes associated. ✨

My kids and I loved so many Dolly songs for our roadtrips and our daily lives when they were little. She’s definitely a piece of our family… I don’t have too much to say about her that isn’t going to be said better by someone else (i’m holding a sleeping baby right now). But i’m thankful for that.

As soon as I discovered it around age 10 or 11, the Heralds of Valdemar trilogy (aka “the Arrows trilogy” to me;) by Mercedes Lackey. Reading all the other books in that world and especially rereading those first three books about Talia was an obsession until I was solidly a teen.

I feel like some people just really believe in their guts that the reason we are facing anti-trans backlash is because we used the wrong words in the 2010s and not, you know, the concerted efforts of people who hate us, plus the well-documented history of backlash as a political phenomenon.
