New paper!📄 We analysed >350 million patient encounters in Norwegian primary care and found that 1/9 visits concern mental health! After adjusting for publication bias, we found that 0.27, 0.53, and 0.86 represent small, medium, and large effect sizes, respectively. We also present thresholds based on six psychotherapy subtypes.

Determining an effect size (ES) of interest can be hard, so many fall back on Cohen's defaults. But these defaults were never meant to be universally applied! In our new paper we identified empirically derived ES thresholds for psychotherapy in depression doi.org/10.1016/j.jp...

Counties in states that expanded Medicaid under the ACA saw a 25% decrease in drug arrests, a 19% drop in “violent offense” arrests, and a 24% decrease in “low-level” offense arrests (Simes & Jahn 2022). Expanding public benefits leads to lower crime rates!
