Notable weakness in today's #jobs report for this morning. Payroll employment grew by 29,000 while downward revisions to both July and August totaled 60,000. July is now recording losses. The job growth in September (29,000) is slower than the prior 12 months (45,000). #EconSky

SNAP update: Another cut from the Republican reconciliation law takes effect today, cutting the federal match for SNAP administrative costs from 50% to 25%. Every state now gets half as many federal dollars to ensure SNAP gets to eligible families on time & in the right amount.

Everything being said about prohibitions on personal glorification and political campaigns is correct, but also note that 31 USC 1301 prohibits spending any appropriated funds for any purpose not specified in the appropriation. Doing so therefore violates the Anti-Deficiency Act and is a crime.

50,000 South Dakotans have health care coverage because voters expanded Medicaid in 2022. The initiative passed with 56% of the vote. So this year the GOP has put 2 measures on ballot: —one to roll back Medicaid expansion —another to require future initiatives like this get 60 percent.

Private insurers have always benefited from favorable selection relative to traditional Medicare and because of inadequate risk adjustment (driven in large part by upcoding) that leads to overpayments. MedPAC has been estimating the size of the overpayments for many years, as have outside analysts.

Some states are still pushing ballot measures to adopt massive tax cuts even as states face major cost shifts from the federal government under H.R. 1 in both #Medicaid & SNAP. Hopefully voters follow Missouri voters in overwhelmingly rejecting a recent measure to repeal that state's income tax.

Oh for gods sake. First, while it’s true that Florida has the highest ACA enrollment in the country, no, there are not "5 x more people enrolled in Obamacare in Florida than live in the state." Around 19% of the total population is enrolled, which is high but hardly over 100%. 1/5th =/= 5x.

This is before H.R. 1 institutes big cost shifts to states in #Medicaid (by phasing down provider taxes in expansion states) as in SNAP. In the upcoming budget cycle states must either raise revenues, cut other parts of their budget like K-12 education, or make damaging Medicaid and SNAP cuts.

The group the WashPost cites, FGA, has a long history of wildly wrong estimates. For example, in Missouri they predicted almost 600,000 would enroll in Medicaid expansion, an absurd number. How many actually enrolled? As predicted about 270,000 in 1st year, and never more than 366,000 (in Mar 2026)
