Me: oh wow, this shop has everything my heart desires!

Spooky shopkeeper: yes, I will warn you... every item comes with a price.

Me: yes, I know how shops work

Spooky Shopkeeper: The price may be more than you expect to pay.

Me: Yes, I know how US taxes work, too.

Shopkeeper, increasingly exasperated: I'm trying to tell you that I'm evil and offering these wares with no regard for the harm they will do!

Me, also increasingly exasperated: I know what capitalism is too goddammit

"What? Filing a lawsuit with the Supreme Court?" It's rare. But when states are bitch slapping each other, that's how it gets sorted. Abortion-ban states are really angry that abortion-friendly states won't extradite doctors providing care to patients in the ban states. Shit just got real.

This is true. In 2016, I got into an argument with a gay man on a menswear forum. I've since made it my mission to make every man dress gay, thereby destroying his ability to tell who is actually gay and, ultimately, his chances of finding love. I built my social media following to achieve that goal
Someone on Twitter writes to me: "People should follow your advise if they want to look gay."

Trump was eagerly waiting for Xi Jinping's reaction to the military parade held especially for him. He couldn't hold back and asked: "What do you think?"
Xi Jinping replied that it was "great" and gave a thumbs-up
Then China's First Lady, Peng Liyuan, added: "It's amazing."
Trump looked visibly relieved, even touching the buttons on his suit in excitement over the praise.

Okay so @defector.com has had an odd glitch since the site redesign a couple of weeks back where the wrong photo and headline are often put together on the main page and I was going to ask them about fixing it but this just happened and as far as I'm concerned they have to leave it as is.
Screenshot for a Defector podcast episode with the headline "Consider the Emotional Lives of Scallops" only the accompanying photo is a white gormless stubbled red-headed UK singer of recent notoriety giving a flat smile to the camera while wearing a washed out peach top as beige as he is against a flat background. So, actually, probably a scallop anyway.

Brian Eno on crafting the Windows 95 start up sound. This is never far from my thoughts.
"The thing from the agency said, 'We want a piece of music that is inspiring, universal, blah-blah, da-da-da, optimistic, futuristic, sentimental, emotional,' this whole list of adjectives, and then at the bottom it said 'and it must be 3.25 seconds long.'
"I thought this was so funny and an amazing thought to actually try to make a little piece of music. It's like making a tiny little jewel."
Eno soon became obsessed by this task, creating 84 different pieces of music - the other 83 of which I'd love to see the light of day at some point.
"I got completely into this world of tiny, tiny little pieces of music", he continued. "I was so sensitive to microseconds at the end of this that it really broke a logjam in my own work. Then when I'd finished that and I went back to working with pieces that were like three minutes long, it seemed like oceans of time."
