When we understand this, & we still seek to focus on eradicating Antisemitic logics, then we can't ever accept the mainstream discourse. Even if they weren't allowing liberal Zionists to define the agenda & lead to greater funding of policing that targets Arabs and Pro-Palestine activists

Like, what do we even do with this from McClesky v Kemp, in which SCOTUS basically says "if we accept that the death penalty is racially biased, we may be forced to confront the fact that the whole system is racially biased, and we can't do that, so ... the DP is fine. Fine. IT IS FINE."
Two additional concerns inform our decision in this case. First, McCleskey's claim, taken to its logical conclusion,
Page 481 U.S. 315
throws into serious question the principles that underlie our entire criminal justice system. The Eighth Amendment is not limited in application to capital punishment, but applies to all penalties. Solem v. Helm, 463 U. S. 277, 463 U. S. 289-290 (1983); see Rummel v. Estelle, 445 U. S. 263, 445 U. S. 293 (1980) (POWELL, J., dissenting). Thus, if we accepted McCleskey's claim that racial bias has impermissibly tainted the capital sentencing decision, we could soon be faced with similar claims as to other types of penalty. [Footnote 38] Moreover, the claim that his sentence
Page 481 U.S. 316
rests on the irrelevant factor of race easily could be extended to apply to claims based on unexplained discrepancies that correlate to membership in other minority groups, [Footnote 39] and
Page 481 U.S. 317
even to gender. [Footnote 40] Similarly, since McCleskey's claim relates to the race of his victim, other claims could apply with equally logical force to statistical disparities that correlate with the race or sex of other actors in the criminal justice system, such as defense attorneys [Footnote 41] or judges. [Footnote 42] Also, there is no logical reason that such a claim need be limited to racial or sexual bias. If arbitrary and capricious punishment is the touchstone under the Eighth Amendment, such a claim could -- at least in theory -- be based upon any arbitrary variable, such as the defendant's facial characteristics, [Footnote 43] or the physical attractiveness of the defendant or the victim, [Footnote 44] that some statistical
Page 481 U.S. 318
study indicates may be influential in jury decisionmaking. As these examples illustrate, there is no limiting principle to the type of challenge brought by McCleskey

This kind of stuff really shows how anti-trans sports bans and policies meant to segregate trans people really have nothing to do with "competitive advantage." All this trans girl wanted to do was run for homecoming queen. Like the students would still have to vote for her to even win!

whenever we get close to seeing a systemic problem with policing, media rushes to frame it as a training problem. however, police culture is at the core of its mistreatment of victims and rape cases. policing is a tool of white supremacy AND *male* supremacy

there are moral arguments against the death penalty in its ideal form but in real life you never need to get there. the prior question is "can the state be trusted to end the life only of the rightly convicted without torture?" and the answer is no

I've said it before and I'll say it again: US police actively prevent consequences for rapists by hitting victims with a wall of demoralizing hostility and skepticism, and then using their institutional credibility to undermine victim testimony and sabotage evidence and process steps.

It is a FERPA violation for schools to share student--including student survivor--information with the police without their consent. There was a huge (survivor-led) movement to ensure survivors could report to their schools without that leading to a police report.

unfortunately I think people have this tendency to engage with these topics as theological matters when often they are matters of interpersonal and authoritarian violence. the belief system or set of belief systems are used as a conduit and justification for the violence.

This is one reason why the “polarization” discourse drives me up a wall. Not only do pretty significant majorities agree on a range of issues; many elected officials from both of the nation’s major political parties align on the OPPOSITE SIDE of many of those same issues.

Emergency court filing from Pike's lawyers seeking to "halt and stay" the botched execution tonight in Tennessee: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
EMERGENCY MOTION TO HALT AND STAY EXECUTION
The Tennessee Department of Correction began the execution of Petitioner
Christa Gail Pike at approximately 8:00 p.m. CDT. According to counsel witnessing the execution:
1. Both syringes of pentobarbital have been administered.
2. Ms. Pike has not lost consciousness and still has a heartbeat and is
audibly snoring.
3. Curtains have gone down twice.
4. It took counsel approximately 7 minutes to be connected via phone.
Accordingly, the Petitioner requests and order immediately staying her execution
and ordering immediate medical care.

The death penalty is a moral abomination. State-sanctioned barbarism pushed by incompetent morons and sanctioned by the Supreme Court. Absolute ghoul shit. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...
The lone woman on Tennessee's death row was still alive after she was administered two lethal injections, her lawyer said in a motion seeking to halt her execution Wednesday night, a stunning development after the Supreme Court had stepped in to allow the state to put her to death.
At 8:26 p.m. local time, witnesses said
"executioners had injected both syringes of lethal injection chemicals and Pike is still alive and snoring," her lawyers said in a federal court filing.
They said Pike "has not lost consciousness and still has a heartbeat," and that curtains to the death chamber "have gone down twice."

Indonesia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Ireland, Mozambique, Angola and Zimbabwe achieved independence by violent means. I don’t actually think Palestinians are in a good position to copy them. But there isn’t really a generic argument from uniform historical failure that works.
