That's close, but if you're in a group that represents, in our 3-member-district case, more than half the electorate, as Morillo+TKL supporters were in the last election, then your (the group's) second choice really does matter. >2/3 and even the third has an effect.

I saw those and replied that I'm pretty sure they're wrong in thinking that it matters very much or even has predictable effects given any uncertainty in the polling. +1 that we should avoid making it look confusing.

Are you saying STV is an example of that, or are you thinking of something else? Because even though there's is some voting strategy in STV, it still works way better for people who don't strategize than single member plurality elections.

Jeffrey Yasskin @jyasskin.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
There are some "paradoxes" with STV, where a widely liked candidate can be eliminated early if not enough people rank them first. But if @pnwpolicyangel.bsky.social wins outright (🤞🏻), then all her excess votes go to the second place *before* anyone is eliminated. Just don't list TKL #3.

They can only both be re-elected if 51% of people rank them both above the first losing candidate. I haven't done the simulations to be sure if this, but I believe if that happens, it doesn't matter which you ranked ahead of the other.

Newer developments may have sidewalks directly in front of them, but that doesn’t mean the rest of the street does. 😐 So you get these disconnected pieces instead of a safe place to actually walk. That’s not a sidewalk system!!! 😤 We deserve better!!!

investigation was originally developed for The New York Times, where it underwent eight months of editing, multiple rounds of fact-checking, and independent replication of the underlying methodology. The piece had a scheduled publication date when requests for comment were sent. It was only after the Times reached out to the subjects of the investigation for routine comment that the Elias Law Group, representing the DCCC and DSCC, sent a cease-and-desist letter demanding the paper not publish. Although the paper's fact-checkers and legal department later cleared the piece before sending out a second round of requests for comment, the Times ultimately decided to kill the piece.3:27
a4democracy.substack.com
The piece was subsequently slated for publication at The Bulwark, where it underwent additional fact-checking, data verification, and legal review. When requests for comment were sent to the subjects of the investigation, lawyers representing the Progressive Turnout Project and Mothership Strategies likewise responded with legal letters demanding that the article not run.
From there, publication was repeatedly delayed. The piece cleared successive rounds of legal review. When I asked for a committed publication date after months of delay, The Bulwark conditioned publication on my accepting an extensive rewrite prepared by its editors that, in my assessment, removed key empirical findings without explanation, introduced claims contradicted by the data and fact-checking record, and presented the subjects' legal defenses as my own conclusions. When I declined to publish under those terms, the piece was released back to me.

Some context regarding Moda Center renovations. The Trail Blazers $600 million request is larger than any recent/planned public contribution to an NBA/NHL arena renovation. It's not "market rate" or even reasonable. What Dundon is demanding is an outlier.
Dot plot showing the median public contribution to NBA renovations from 2025 and beyond is $338 million.

I distinguish capitalism—the idea that those who own the capital, i.e., the rich, should make all the important decisions about how society operates—from markets—the idea that when a bunch of small actors bid to buy and sell stuff, that discovers prices that motivate those actors in good ways.

I suspect he saw what happened here when the city took on the police too directly, and they stopped doing even the so-do job they had been doing. Lip service is cheap if his goal is to route around them in more concrete ways. And even here, the call was to reduce funding ("defund"), not "abolish".

🚨🚨🚨MEMBERS OF THE ORDER WHO STAY IN THE ORDER ARE *ALL* EXCOMMUNICATED🚨🚨🚨
The Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith's decree establishes that, in the act of carrying out the consecration, both the consecrators and those consecrated incurred the prescribed excommunication.

The painful epilogue was the consequence of the decision taken by the Lefebvrists against the will repeatedly expressed by Pope Leo XIV.

The excommunication newly separates the bishops and priests of the Fraternity of Saint Pius X from the Church of Rome.

As for the lay faithful, those who formally adhere to the Fraternity are to be considered
excommunicated.
