I know they *can*, but does that mean they *would*? (Hypotheticals on hypotheticals at this point, I realize.)

Presumably we would just use one of the wheelchair-accessible gates instead in stations that have those, but what happens in non-ADA stations? (All theoretical in my case, since I assume nothing actually would happen until after my little one turns 7, but still on my mind.) (2/2)

My only question with these is as a parent with a small child. My kid rides CTA free with me because she’s younger than 7, and when we ride the train she just ducks under the turnstile—which works fine as long as it isn’t one of the full-height station exit kinds. (1/2)

Yep, I was just in SF a month ago and used these there. I only used maybe four or five stations, so hardly representative, but this setup was in all of *those*, at least.

If, like me, you are someone who is interested in how AI works but doesn’t want to do the serious work that would normally involve, this is a great essay. It’s at (for me) the right level of abstraction: detailed enough that I can see how various types of models differ …

I know many things are bad and there is no shortage of doomscrolling you can do. But little things still matter. A hot shower. Drinking water. A compliment from a stranger. A kind gesture. Knowing your enemies are aging poorly. Getting enough sleep. You still deserve time to rest and recover.

For the #NLGJA26 crowd, here’s my usual wording for the lesson @bokchoy-baobei.bsky.social just gave about interrogating the meanings behind the phrases we regularly see and publish:
033
Justin Myers @justinmyers.net · 10/09/2026
At #NLGJA26, @lexmcmenamin.com notes federal and state criminal justice systems have been targeting trans people disproportionately in conspiracy cases and then carrying out further social, medical and sexual violence against them in prison—and that this seems to have been news to most in this room.
0155
Justin Myers @justinmyers.net · 10/09/2026
From @petrinkae.bsky.social: All the back-and-forth about procedures and patients ignores that only 30% or so of trans people get gender-affirming medical care *at all*—and to cover this population fully and fairly, we need to get at the other hardships *everyone* faces on a regular basis. #NLGJA26

Justin Myers @justinmyers.net · 10/09/2026
Jireh’s dropping truth bombs straight out the gate in the first answer of this #NLGJA26 panel, where they tell us including trans people in your coverage helps you add depth and nuance to how you tell stories that affect *all* of your audience.

This sign is a great example for helping to explain why chatbots present such a potent illusion. A probably not short thread 🧵>>
Photo of a sign with a doorbell attached. The printed sign reads:

CURRENT GUGGENHEIM ACCES BY HUSKY CARD ONLY
[Logos for Amazon, FedEx, UPS]
DELIVERIES/VISITORS
PLEASE RING THIS DOORBELL

Delivery hours M-F 9:00am-(obscured)

Taped next to the doorbell is a hand written note that reads:
yes! it rang! Pelase wait 30 seconds before pressing again.
thanks!

I mean, with all the attacks in recent years on the judiciary and education and mass media and so on, I’d actually be more surprised if the U.S. *didn’t* end up going full-on Cultural Revolution. (Early 2025 even had some Bombard the Headquarters vibes going, although not as focused.)
