The image is of a four panel comic.
The first panel shows Sarah, the protagonist, working at a desk. A brain next to her says, "We need to take breaks!"
The second panel zooms in on Sarah's face. She is annoyed. She says, "What if I don't listen to you?"
The third panel shows the brain smiling.
The fourth panel shows the brain reaching towards a lever. The brain says, "I'LL MAKE YOU."

I would like to point out that the local people in Bolivia were already familiar with the new cat species, traditionally calling it "Tilcayo", a name honored by the scientists who carried it over into the formal scientific name Leopardus tilcayo.

This Finnish guy has been teaching himself Sumerian, and sent a cuneiform tablet to the British Museum to check his progress. They just emailed him that they've sent him something in the post. I'm now thrilled and excited for a total stranger! Clay tablet mail! www.reddit.com/r/Cuneiform/...

I love this projection. Does it preserve size or relative position? No. Does it convey useful information for navigating? No. But does it meaningfully represent relationships between place? Also no.

I think it's fun to point out that evolution is not about making things harder better faster stronger, but just Good Enough. Here is a beetle with five typical sexes, only three of which actually work, and all of this does literally nothing to assist their overall goal of eating wood

Discworld QOTD, from I Shall Wear Midnight
What was it that Granny Weatherwax had said once? "Evil starts when you begin to treat people as things". And right now it would happen if you thought there was a thing called a father, and a thing called a mother, and a thing called a daughter, and a thing called a cottage, and told yourself that if you put them all together you had a thing called a happy family.

The image is of a four panel comic.
The first panel shows Sarah, the protagonist, as a child. Off panel, someone says to her, “Enjoy your youth!”
The second panel shows child Sarah again, now frowning. The person off panel continues, saying “After you’re 30 you’ll be old and your life will basically be over.”
Before the last two panels there is text that reads “LIFE AFTER I TURNED 30.”
The third panel shows adult Sarah opening a door.
The fourth panel shows the door opens to a beautiful field with flowers, a rainbow, and a pond. Sarah says “Wait what.”

I really hate the “I don’t owe anyone anything” mentality because we actually owe each other and this planet a lot. You don’t have to be selfless all the time or burn yourself out but you should be kind and helpful and compassionate to the best of your ability. We need to care about each other more

My favorite way to put this, as someone who studied Classical History in actual college (not just on Twitter): If you told an ancient Roman or Athenian that his culture had "more in common" with a German or Briton than with an Egyptian or Ethiopian, he'd punch you in the throat.

here's today's #Paleostream sketches!! today we sketched Palaeoloxodon (i drew P. falconeri), Palaeosaniwa, Rhomaleosaurus, and Utaurora
"Beach Day w/ Mum" a lone mother Palaeoloxodon falconeri and her calf are seen walking away from a beach, the mum's legs are still wet, as is the lower half of her calf's body. yellow-legged gulls are seen by the shore, one is perched ontop of the mother's back, she seems unbothered by it. Mount Etna is seen in the very back shrouded in fog.

Palaeoloxodon falconeri is a dwarf species of Palaeoloxodon from Middle Pleistocene Sicily and Malta when they were connected by a land bridge. it looked pretty much like extant elephants, just with a slightly wider head and being only around a metre tall at the hipa Palaeosaniwa tastes the air with its tongue while raising its head from the ground with its front limbs, three very large fern fronds are behind it.

Palaeosaniwa is a relative of gila monsters and monitor lizards from Late Cretaceous of Canada and the USA. It is only reliably known from jaw material and isolated vertebrae. here i have reconstructed it with a similar integument to gila monsters, with a more gracile skull and general build like a monitor lizarda Parapsicephalus jumps away from a Rhomaleosaurus which has ambushed it at the surface of the water

Parasicephalus is a rhamphorhynchid pterosaur (flying reptiles like long interlocking teeth, and long tails with flat fleshy structures at the end) known from Early Jurassic Yorkshire, England. it's only reliably known from a skull, however, a more complete specimen may become available in the coming years

Rhomaleosaurus is a plesiosaur (marine reptiles with interlocking teeth and four large flippers) that is famous for being found by the pioneer palaeontologist Mary Anning. it had a long neck, long flippers, and a crocodile-like head (although its skin would've been smooth)in the deep sea, an ROV comes across an Utaurora foraging the organic mud for food, it waves its lateral flaps to move water over its gills while it uses its legs to traverse the organic sediment. fine organic particulate is kicked up by the ROV and the foraging of the small invertebrate

Utaurora is an opabiniid (non-arthropod invertebrates that had a claws at the end of a long proboscis that was used like a hand, legs, and a row of lateral flaps used to swim on either side of their bodies) from the middle Cambrian of Utah, USA. it wouldve appeared like a very small velvet worm with a trunk at the front, large flaps on its sides, and either an eye or a sclerite at its very front (this is debated)
