Its body is elongated, rusty brown, and covered in relatively large fish-like scales. The front legs are tiny and swept back as it lunged forwards, the hind legs are only a bit larger and spread out as if holding on to an underwater log. The head is low and oval shaped, and near the base of the front leg is a slit-like gill opening. Its eye is fairly large and looking down towards its prey.

This ancient euchelicerate is a rather large offacolid, a family of putative early paleozoic suspension feeders related to the ancestors of arachnids & horseshoe crabs. Several details of its ventral anatomy are known.

enter: the new lobopodian Oreinorema the paper which described this animal made some very bold claims about its anatomy and phylogenetic position. others have questioned these interpretations after looking at the scans used. as always more research is needed

during the early morning, an Oreinorema is startled by the abrupt intrusion of a bright camera flash at the bottom of the large lagoon it calls home. The sudden movement from the camera causing fine particulates and macroalgae (like Megaspirellus and Morania) to be kicked up. A swarm of Isoxys paradoxus is also startled and their movement in turn churns up more fine particulates from the muddy sediment.

Oreinorema is a lobopodian (typically soft bodied invertebrates, like tardigrades and velvetworms) of debated relation from the Cambrian Stage 3 of Yunnan, China. It's unique in preserving raptorial feeding appendages which point inwards and slightly forwards, being more sclerotized than other small radiodonts its size, and having a hypostome/labrum rather than an oral cone. These claims have been analysed and debated by others however. Many amplectobeluid radiodont fossils seem to suggest a similar position after reinterpretation, the hypostome/labrum is not homologous to arthropod hypostomes as species inbetween radiodonts and arthropods lack hypostomes, and sclerotisation has been observed in other radiodonts before. More research is needed to broaden our understanding of this unique animal's anatomy and the implications it has for its relatives.

Isoxys paradoxus is a species of invertebrate that sits between radiodonts and arthropods in the invertebrate family tree, it and its close relatives are evidence that the hypostome/labrum in Oreinorema is not homologous to arthropod hypostome/labrum as they lacked hypostomes despite being closer to arthropods than radiodonts.
