Hey, I’m just asking questions. Ignorant questions, bigoted questions, questions that have been repeatedly answered for many years. Sorry, but I’m not listening to answers right now; I’m far too busy asking questions. It’s called being intellectually curious.

On Jacob Geller
I'm aware of the rape allegations against Jacob Geller, as well as the fact that his name is on a court-ordered list of UNC students disciplined for sexual violence. I've hesitated on whether to post anything about it, because the victim hasn’t been identified and I don’t want to participate in a retraumatizing conversation against their wishes. At the same time, as someone who has collaborated with Jacob Geller, I do not want my silence to be taken as endorsement.

For my part, I did not know about this and I wish I had. What justice and repair look like in cases like these are for the victim to decide, and I do not know their wishes or what accountability processes, if any, took place. However, strictly on a personal level, I’m uncomfortable having collaborated with someone who has presented himself as a nonthreatening feminist without ever disclosing his history of sexual violence to me or any other colleagues I’ve spoken to. I have no intention of ever working with Geller again. Beyond that, the person this happened to ought to be the ultimate authority on what happens next, and how they wish to tell their story if at all.

It would have been one thing if this were far behind him and if he were up front about his history. But Sarah Z posted a comment about how she personally feels betrayed about their collaborations since he was a vocal feminist but never disclosed this history to his collaborative partners.

This sucks. Gellar's videos shaped how I approach media criticism in such a positive way. I won't be able to watch any of his videos without thinking about the allegations though.

I saw someone defending Taylor Swift's new album or song or whatever just happened by saying "Why didn't the haters just promote the musicians they like instead?" Well, I'm here to tell you that I am capable of both. Toby Fox rules. The Chainsmokers suck. You can house both hate and love inside you.

Doing less work but progressing faster than I previously could feels weird, as if I'm cheating. I feel better than ever though. I don't know who else on here does any rehular resistance training (other than @mementomorty.bsky.social) but if you struggle with weights, I recommend this approach.

Since switching to this, I have noticed my strength continue to improve without significant joint aches or muscle strains. I'm able to maintain good range of motion since I'm not tiring my muscles with excessive reps. The resistance training portion of my workout is shorter so I can do more cardio.

...if you perform more than two sets of any exercises compared to only doing two sets. More specifically, EXRX recommends one warmup set of 12-15 reps using 50% of your one-rep max followed by one 8-12 rep set of 80% of your one-rep max. Then move onto the next exercise. That's it.

being so fr when I say that transmisogyny has put feminism back like 50 years

seravph
what i thought we had distanced ourselves from was the reduction of women to vaginas and wombs and the ability to bear children. i thought we had progressed past 'dresses are for women and pants are for men. i thought we progressed past the idea that someone is less of a woman if she does not adhere strictly to beauty standards. i thought we progressed past the idea that naturally being comfortable adhering to highly feminine standards is vulgar. but i (sarcastically) guess no one could have predicted that trans-exclusive feminism would be the downfall of all the progress we've made

calvin and hobbes strip about the dad regarding how tech makes things rushed and less time

I know Calvin’s dad is already having a moment, but every terrible “outsource precious and fleeting moments with your children to tech so that you can spend more time on your work” pitch makes me think of that one strip I never really cared about as a kid, but care a lot about as an adult.
The Calvin and Hobbes strip where Calvin asks his dad to come play in the snow with him. His dad initially says no, because he has to work. Then, angry at himself, his Dad goes out to build a snowman with Calvin. As the Dad works into the night to make up for it, we see Calvin’s mum lifting him up to give one of the few, if only, kisses he ever gives his dad in the Calvin and Hobbes run. His dad is content. It’s a textless comic, and it’s lovely.
