Supper Mario Broth @mariobrothblog.bsky.social · 13h

A "Portuguese Luigi Disrespect" version of New Super Luigi U was uploaded to Nintendo's servers but replaced before it could be distributed to users. It is completely identical to the final version except that one Toad calls Luigi "Mario" in Portuguese.

On June 20th, 2013, New Super Luigi U was released in Europe as a downloadable update for New Super Mario Bros. U. However, internal files reveal that two weeks prior to this, another version of the game was uploaded to Nintendo's servers, but never pushed to users as an update.
The only difference between the early internal version of NSLU and the final one was that in the early version, one Toad mistakes Luigi for Mario in Portuguese.
Internal "Portuguese Luigi Disrespect" version, June 6, 2013:
Ai, isto é terrível! Alguém roubou as minhas coisas! E ele é tão rápido que não o consigo apanhar! Ajuda-me, Mario!
Final European version, June 20, 2013:
Ai, isto é terrível! Alguém roubou as minhas coisas! E ele é tão rápido que não o consigo apanhar! Ajuda-me, Luigi!
clearly not Mario
Translation:
"Oh, this is terrible! Someone stole my things! And he's so fast that I can't catch him! Help me, Mario!"
Translation:
"Oh, this is terrible! Someone stole my things! And he's so fast that I can't catch him! Help me, Luigi!"
The reasoning for this is almost certainly that the early version was a work in progress while Nintendo made one final check to see if everything was in order, and managed to catch one single mistake. However, it is curious how a version of the game exists that is nearly identical to the final except for not respecting Luigi.

Not my project, but as I don't think the team have a post up here yet: It looks like the Summon Night: Swordcraft Story 3 patch is out! It's available over on their page for it, alongside some details and words from some team members: snsc3translation.github.io (images also taken from their site)

A screenshot of dialogue from the linked patch.

A screenshot of a battle using the patch.

Finished Theodora Act 1. FW is definitely a lot of fun, but even at this early stage some of its seams and trade-offs are pretty obvious. Don't think it will land in my top FE games of the series. Also maybe I've been playing too many romhacks but it should be way gayer.

here’s my favorite “video game that was changed because of 9/11” fact: in MGS2 they had to write Raiden in kanji (雷電) instead of katakana (ライデン) so it didn’t look like Laden (ラディン)

Tweet from Hideo Kojima
