I know this is me still mourning a long dead world but it does feel remarkable that, not that long ago, British papers on the right would have run editorials and columns arguing that Hungary showed that only a solid, reliable centre-right party could defeat dangerous populists, but now? [crickets]

Not giving them credit for “children”. Saying that it’s going to be easier to argue against legalisation, due to most people’s natural response to legalising something that’s been outlawed in large part cos it’s dangerous…

TBF the argument for legalisation IS counterintuitive. V easy for Reform to go “are you mad”? Requires a level of understanding of what evidence IS, trust in the motives of those proposing it and, frankly, nerve, to go there… I winced when I first heard Zak say it, even though I cautiously support…

What you’re witnessing is a populist assault on the BBC. This is not an institutional scandal in any meaningful sense of the word. It is an attack on public service broadcasting. iandunt.substack.com/p/extra-edit...

Maybe Keir should demand the heads of major US news networks any time they imply Britain is on the brink of civil war or that we live under sharia law. Or does it not work both ways?

I need this. Don't take this from me. I need a 2 part video series, where Sadiq Khan visits NYC, and he and Zohran Mamdani take the subway to Mets-Willets to watch a Mets game, and talk about hopeful things. Then in part 2, Zohran visits London. They take the Tube to watch Arsenal play Liverpool.

…or smoother like Gilmore’s solo on the outro of wuthering heights… less rock. Put lead guitar further back in the mix when vocals come back in (maybe with a load of reverb to ‘distance’ it). I’d harmonise the chorus hook and lean into the folky feel a bit… and let the final piano chord ring longer…

Jonas Crabtree aka daftbeatles @jonascra.bsky.social · 01/11/2025

I like it. Vocals pitchy (flat) at the beginning, better in chorus. I quite like the double tracked voice throughout… or you could just double track on chorus/pre chorus. I’d be tempted to try a different guitar sound for solo - something a bit more chorusy like the solo in let it be…

I once spent an hour on a call with the Head of the Liquor Licensing board of Colorado going through the objections he had faced in legalising cannabis (I was researching a TV idea). Every single objection was a harm or fear that evidence showed was made better by legalisation.

think that realistically I would have always been deeply, deeply worried about the rise of far-right ideas in public discourse but I truly never expected this level of blithe elite complacency, turns out I do feel worried but mostly I feel like I'm going insane, watching them do.......nothing at all
