Yes, that’s right, the guy who resigned as Keir Starmer’s strategist because he was bullying and sexually harassing a Black female MP also thinks asylum seekers are living high on the hog and that people with disabilities are faking it! This is what a centre-left social democrat sounds like!

I so much want to love the BBC, but then they do this kind thing. The headline here should be ‘anti-migrant protestor attacks RNLI boat’, but they don’t even mention that, in a report. He merely “shared a livestream”. (And it was updated an hour ago, so this isn’t an issue of confirmation.)

Andy Burnham has been warned by a senior ally that increasing taxes on wealth in the budget would be "stupid" because it would encourage entrepreneurs to leave the country and damage economic growth
The prime minister spent more than a month attempting to convince Lord O'Neill of Gatley to join his government as either a minister or an economic adviser, but was unable to do so
In an interview with The Times, O'Neill said that if the government raised taxes in the budget on October 28 it would demonstrate that ministers were not "thinking about growth as sincerely as they claim they are"
He said it would also show that they were being
"scared and lazy and constrained" in failing to take on "sacred cows" such as the pension trinle lock and welfare reform

Sharing this because it happened on Saturday.
I live in a beautiful street in Berlin and my apartment block has the kindest staircase of neighbours I have ever known. Also: there is a proud Nazi in my building. I know this because whenever they see anti-fascist graffiti on its walls, they write their own fascist slogans proudly over it in English. They want the foreigners to know they are there. On Saturday, leaving my favourite bar, I got talking to two friendly locals, and I mentioned that I thought that Nazis were regularly gathering in the neighbourhood, at a pub just down the road. Oh, no, they said, the pub you should really watch out for is that one, and they pointed to the pub directly next to my apartment block. So that’s my life in Berlin - where you can live among the best people, but also right next to the most cruel, who are increasingly bold. A great city, where happiness comes at ever greater cost.

Letter (1962) from Bertrand Russell to Oswald Mosley, founder of the British Union of Fascists in response to Mosley's demands that they debate publicly.
22 January 1962
Sir Oswald Mosley,
5, Lowndes Court,
Lowndes Square,
London, S.W.1.

Dear Sir Oswald,

Thank you for your letter and for your enclosures. I have given some thought to our recent correspondence. It is always difficult to decide on how to respond to people whose ethos is so alien and, in fact, repellent to one’s own. It is not that I take exception to the general points made by you but that every ounce of my energy has been devoted to an active opposition to cruel bigotry, compulsive violence, and the sadistic persecution which has characterised the philosophy and practice of fascism.

I feel obliged to say that the emotional universes we inhabit are so distinct, and in deepest ways opposed, that nothing fruitful or sincere could ever emerge from association between us.

I should like you to understand the intensity of this conviction on my part. It is not out of any attempt to be rude that I say this but because of all that I value in human experience and human achievement.

Yours sincerely,

Bertrand Russell

From Will Self of all people, an absolutely clinical deconstruction of Kathleen Stock. Nice to know that some writers can see through some of the GC crowd.
J'accuse Kathleen Stock of helping convert an allegation of academic misconduct into the story of 'Cambridge's DEI darling', thereby making Arday's institutional and racial symbolism integral to the accusation. There's no need to label Stock transphobic: she's done it herself, whatever the nonsense she spouts about 'gender criticality'; just as there's no need to demonstrate that her personal agon is that she hasn't been allowed to peddle her own prejudices in return for status and prestige: that, too, she has amply confirmed through her writings and public statements. She, and her supporters clearly feel they are winning: I wonder if they know what that will look like, or how high the body-count will have to go before they're satisfied.

I wouldn't call myself a cartoonist, but I had the vision and just needed it to be on paper to the best of my ability.
A hand drawn eight panel cartoon. First two panels are a colander sitting frowning on a shelf. Then the colander is frowning straining pasta, then three more panels of frowning sitting on a shelf. Then a big panel where it's projecting a bunch of crescent eclipse shapes and smiling with speech bubbles around saying "Wow! Look! Amazing! Beautiful!" And then one final panel where it's sitting on a shelf smiling.
