My hot take is that fandoms have always been a majority of nice people with a subset of absolutely rancid, judgemental arseholes that never got bigger, just louder, but because platforms learned that arguments drive engagement and therefore you see more ads, they tailored algorithms towards that

Non-gaming outlets don't *have* to address the concerns of a gaming audience, but they also don't have to launder PR
Xbox’s aims for its participation in this story are abundantly clear. As I wrote previously, the company and its execs can’t sit around being sad about their own decisions. They need to portray themselves as making tough choices to put the company in a better position, aggressively on the up and with a clear plan for the future. This story does that, with the added bonus of not having to speak to a gaming audience who might be motivated to hold their feet to the fire or who might have the context to poke holes in the story they’re laundering through EW. If you’re Xbox, this is a great story at a great time in a great outlet, talking to the new audiences you hope to attract to your movies and TV shows and to the entertainment industry power players you want to get on board.

But as gaming outlets close or get converted to SEO and AI slop, and as major media companies pull back from gaming coverage, stories like this read as painfully tone-deaf to anyone who understands gaming as something that existed before its early covid boom, or who cares about the industry enough to know why it needs rigorous reporting. It is simply telling the story a company wants to tell, at a time when that story is of particular use to that company. That's a job for PR, not a journalist and their outlet. The real story is messy and complicated, and it also involves people--Booty and Sharma, sure, but also the game creatives it speaks to who surely find themselves in the complicated position of hyping their games while worrying about their fates. By going wide without going deep, and by prioritizing the company above the real people involved, the piece not only doesn't tell the whole story, but lets down both the people the writer spoke to and EW's readers.

- Develop a legislative proposal that explicitly prohibits the deliberate disabling of paid-for video games, after the end of support.
- Ensure consumer protection by safeguarding the perpetual right to use purchased video games, without obliging publishers to provide perpetual service.
- Promote technical solutions that allow for the continued functionality of games, such as enabling private servers or peer-to-peer alternatives, where feasible.

The next big movie from the Indianapolis indie film scene. A beautifully filmed story of crime, love and redemption. My review of Street Angel:
thebestpictureproject.wordpress.com
Street Angel
Street Angel is a faith based film featuring talent local to my hometown, Indianapolis. It’s the brainchild of my friend, Lamont Coleman, who not only wrote the film but composed the music. Back in September he was talking about a new screenplay and intrigued by his enthusiasm, I said to send it my way. I’ll admit, faith based films are not my personal jam, but I was invested in this story from page one.

JUSTICE ALITO: Well, we can affirm on any ground that would support the judgment and was raised below, and the good-faith exception qualifies on all those points. We would --I mean, the Court specifically declined certiorari on that question, so we didn't brief it. And we raised in our cert petition that we'd like the chance to argue that thequestions are intertwined, and in view of the holding on the Fourth Amendment issue, we'd like to, you know, litigate the good-faith issue. The Court didn't grant certiorari. We didn't brief it. The government did have a section of the Respondent's brief addressing the good-faith exception, but adhering to the Court's decision not to grant certiorari, we didn't respond in the reply brief except to ask for a remand.
