The problem with Starmer's argument (well one of them) is that it depends on an assertion that he wouldn't have appointment Mandelson if he'd known he'd failed vetting. But he appointed him before vetting was complete.

Starmer’s letter to his MPs shows that the problem is the emperor, not the emperor’s adviser. I’ve really hoped he would reset, not least because I don’t see any great alternatives, within or outside the party, but he seems intent on doubling down on a failing strategy.

Polanski is an engaging bloke, with easy answers to complex questions. It's easy to see why he's popular. However, the Greens cannot be trusted with the country's defence or economy. That's a deal breaker. Labour, for all its faults, is the only option in today's byelection IMHO.
