Yesterday the cafe I work at packed up its CafeTO patio. Immediately, someone parked where the patio used to be and the spot was basically occupied all day m. It made me think of the bike lane removal thing. All those “freed up” lanes will just be parking. It won’t ease car congestion at all.

Terri Hawkes
Council Candidate - Ward 11

Biography: Terri Hawkes is an actor, film producer, and screenwriter. She acted in “Beverly Hills 90210” and was one of the voices of Sailor Moon. She is on the board of the Annex Residents Association (ARA) and has deputed at city hall against an 11-storey development in her neighbourhood. Hawkes insists that both the Dalton Road Residents Group, which she co-founded, and the ARA are not anti-development, but are made up of “YIMBYS who support affordable, thoughtful densification.” Critics, however, have argued that the ARA uses heritage preservation rules to block high-density development.

People are going to clown on this but we need to remember that planning for local context is important: a city with Los Angeles, California’s semi-arid Mediterranean climate only gets sunshine ~300 days a year; so it’s important to make sure you can never ever find shade in the middle of the day.

Today is Truth and Reconciliation Day in Canada, which is also Orange Shirt Day. I stopped by the Bryce grave at Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa. There was a steady stream of children and teachers in orange shirts visiting. Let's commit to do our best to make up for past wrongs, and prevent new ones.
A gray gravestone with the name "BRYCE" carved into it sits at the center of a flowers, lanterns, as well as an "Every Child Matters" sign and other small artifacts such as painted stones and a pair of shoes. The grave is surrounded by cut grass and there are mature trees in the background. The trees have mostly green leaves, but also plenty of yellow and some orange.

the scarborough busway should inspire the city to look into longer, more permanent busways on available right-of-ways that can produce rapid transit speeds at cheaper cost and timelines. the one with greatest potential, i think, is finch east. this would transform east-west travel in scarborough.

There’s major traffic on Avenue Road, Mt Pleasant road.

There’s shops and restaurants on Yonge street, the commercial strip.

The alternative is a zigzag that’s basically impossible and involves hopping your bike over gated cemeteries.
