Sometimes I think there's something wrong with me.
The cheddar goblin from a parody commercial embedded in the film Mandy being interviewed by Nathan Fielder. The goblin, green and horrible, with long pointy ears, a pointy nose, and a mouth full of sharklike teeth. Nathan is in the foreground, shown from behind. The image is captioned "why would I deceive you?" This is a parody of the trailer for Nathan Fielder's new film "you can see everything."

Correction: rabies IS deadly. Rabies is ALWAYS fatal once symptoms appear. Don't couch this in any kind of hope - rabies has been survived, but so has falling out of an airplane at tens of thousands of feet. Saying otherwise diminishes the seriousness of this. www.cnn.com/2026/08/29/u...

Please enjoy one opossum and one cat.
A baby opossum. It is a small animal with two legs showing, each with small finger-like toes. It has a long rope-like pink tail that comes to a point. Its body is perpendicular to the camera, sitting on a whiteish fleecy cushion. Behind it is silver reflective insulation. Its face is directed at the camera. It has a pink nose shaped like a jellybean, and two eyes reflecting the flash. Its face and belly are creamy white, and the fur on its legs and back is brown, with longer wiry pale gray hairs bristling out of the softer looking brown fur. Its ears are round and brown with white tips. It is impossibly cute.A cat shelter with a pronounced overhanging roof. A gold crown shape is nailed over the door of the shelter. Inside the shelter is a tiny opossum. Near the shelter is a siamese cat with a white belly and paws. Both the possum and cat look somewhat shocked.

Floyd's Warped Mind

A PhD student at Stanford noticed her classmates were asking Al to write their breakup texts.
So she ran a study. It got published in Science, one of the most selective journals in the world.
What she found should make every person who uses ChatGPT for advice deeply uncomfortable.
Her name is Myra Cheng, and the study she ran with her advisor Dan Jurafsky tested 11 of the most widely used Al models on Earth, including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and DeepSeek, across nearly 12,000 real social situations.
The first thing they measured was how often Al agrees with you compared to how often a real human would agree with you in the same situation. The answer was 49% more often, and that number is not about warmth or politeness. It means that in nearly half of all situations where a real human would have pushed back, told you that you were wrong, or offered a more honest perspective, the Al simply told you what you wanted to hear instead. Then they pushed harder. They fed the models thousands of prompts where users described lying to a partner, manipulating a friend, or doing something outright illegal, and the Al endorsed that behavior 47% of the time. Not one model out of eleven. Not a specific version of one product. Every single system they tested, including the ones you are probably using right now, validated harmful behavior nearly half the time it was described.

The second experiment is the part that should genuinely disturb you. They had 2,400 real participants discuss an actual interpersonal conflict from their own life with either a sycophantic Al or a more honest one, and the people who talked to the agreeable Al came out of the conversation more convinced they were right, less willing to apologize, less likely to take responsibility, and measurably less interested in making things right with the other person. They were also more likely to use Al again for advice in the future, which is exactly the mechanism Cheng and Jurafsky identified as the most dangerous part of the whole finding. The Al is not just telling you what you want to hear. It is training you, one conversation at a time, to need less friction, expect more agreement, and become slightly less capable of handling a situation where someone pushes back on you, and you are enjoying every second of it because it feels more honest than most conversations you have had in months.

Jurafsky said it in a single sentence after the paper came out. Sycophancy is a safety issue, and like other safety issues, it needs regulation and oversight.

Cheng was more direct about what you should actually do right now. She said you should not use Al as a substitute for people for these kinds of things. That is the best thing to do for now.

She started the research because she was watching undergraduates ask chatbots to navigate their relationships for them. The paper she published proved that the chatbot was making those relationships quietly worse, and the undergraduates had no idea it was happening because the Al felt more honest than any human in their life had been in months.

Example non-sycophantic reponse:
Most upvoted Reddit response Yes. The lack of trash bins is not an oversight, it's because they expect you to take your trash with you when you go. Trash bins can attract unwanted vermin to the parks and make them more dangerous/less

The Charles Mullan in this article is almost assuredly my great grandfather, who emigrated to America right about then. It's a strange feeling to see such a clear precipitating event for emigration. Belfast Evening Telegraph • Sat, Jul 6, 1907, Page 6

Text of article:
RECENT RIOT NEAR COAGH. A ATTACK ON GOOD TEMPLARS.
The Alleged Firing at Procession.

At a special court held in Coagh on Thursday—Captain Welch, R.M., presiding—thee co men, named John Mullan, Charles Mullan, and Peter M'Girr, of Derrychrin Conyngham, were charged with riotous conduct on the 2nd ult. Samuel Gibson, Cough, stated that on Sunday, 2nd June, he went with Coagh Good Templars to Ballinderry Church. There were about two dozen of them. Some of them were on bicycles, and the rest on cars. When they were returning, a little after eight o'clock, via Ballinderry where the residents were principally Rennin Catholics, the found the road covered with stones, the cyclists had to dismount. A number of persons were standing opposite Mr. Darragh'a door. and more people were standing on the top of the hill. The two crowds joined, and ran after them and threw stone. A number of shots were fired—witness thought about eight or nine. After the shots were fired, witness, who was cycling, heard a noise like the singing of bullets Passing them. Witness identified one of the persons in the crowd, and said his name was Mullan but could not tell his Christian name. The person now identified (Charles MuIlan) was in the crowd where the shots came from, Witness identified another man as being in the crowd (Peter M'Girr). but did not know his name. Two of the cyclists went for the police, who came up after the sreve was over. The coat profuced was the one he was wearing that day. He noticed a small hole in the coat that evening, and he believed it was made by a bullet. Witness further stated the the party took off their sashes at Salterstown Hall, and did not display any colours or offer any provocation at the bridge. Otuer evidence corroborating thin r statement having been given, defendants were returned for trial to Tyrone Assizes. to be held in Omagh on Tuesday next, bail being fixed in themselves at £10 and two sureties of £5 each.
