RABID BAT FOUND ON SIDEWALK
On Tuesday, September 15 at about 12pm, a bat was found on the sidewalk on Hennepin Ave between N. Washington Ave and N 3°St.
The bat died and was sent for rabies testing. This bat tested positive for
rabies.
A woman was seen crouching by the bat and putting it into a bag. She was described as a 25-to-30-year-old white woman, about 5'5", with curly brown hair and a curly-haired golden retriever-like dog. If this was you, please call 911 and ask to be connected to Animal Care & Control.
Bites from bats are tiny, may be painless, and may not leave a mark. An person who had physical contact or touched this bat should talk with health care provider this weekend for assessment. During the week, Minnesota Department of Health can also provide rabies assessments at 651-201-5414.
If vou did not touch or have any contact with the bat, you have no risk of rabies and do not need shots.

Tonight the MPS administration presented 3 options for “School Transformation.” All 3 options would close at least fifteen schools. Whether your kid’s school is slated for closure, big changes, or no changes under the plans, as families we need to stand together. This is NOT the way forward.

We bought a fully electric vehicle this summer, and being in car dealerships is an exercise in watching people buy impractically huge trucks and SUVs. We spent 6 years as a 1 car, several e-bikes household, and loved it. (My new job has a 70 mile round trip commute a couple times per week though).

Every time we hear "The homeless people didn't use the resources we offered," the next questions should be "What specific resources did you offer? Were they actually meant to be helpful to people you claim to want to help? Did you offer actual shelter? Did it accommodate couples? Pets? Wet or dry?"

Remember: In Minnesota, applying to be mailed a ballot does *nothing* to your ability to vote in person. If you get the ballot, you can decide whether to use it and if so, how to return it. There is nothing to lose by applying, and if applying, no better time than now.

Neighbors tell me they are waiting to apply to be mailed a ballot until there is greater certainty. That's a mistake. The court cannot make it any easier for your local elections officials to get you a ballot than at present. They can only make it harder. Sooner is better than later. No matter what.

AQI in Minneapolis is now 530. It’s over 80 degrees at 11pm. For neighbors without air conditioning, and our neighbors experiencing unsheltered homelessness, these are incredibly dangerous conditions. I’ll be out tomorrow with masks and cold water, checking on neighbors. Please do the same.

AQI in Minneapolis is near 400 right now, and we’re days into extreme heat, with little cooling off at night. Check on your neighbors, including your unhoused neighbors. A KN95 mask and a cold bottle of water could be a literal lifesaver.
