Excited to see this work published! We find that the brain codes semantic relationships similar to contextual LLMs (like GPT2) but unlike LLMs, uses contrastive coding to prevent confusion of highly similar words. Many thanks to the reviewers and BCM neurosurgery team! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

To me, this is bigger than Alzheimer's disease. Neuronal population activity sits between biology and behavior. If we understand that level well enough, systems neuroscience can do more than explain behavior. It can diagnose, track progression, and maybe even identify treatment targets. 9/

📊 NIH NOT-OD-26-086 proposes capping RPGs per PI at 2, 3, or 4. The cap counts grants rather than dollars controlled, so an MPI on a five-site U19 spends a full slot for a fraction of a budget while a sole PI spends one slot for an entire R01.

NIH grants have been under political scrutiny since early 2025. But what does the screening process actually look like? What is being flagged? I spent a month digging into leaked docs and emails. We've published the 235-word list that are being flagged by an internal AI tool. And so much more. 🧵
