Trying it over here. Disabled and queer. Word tinkerer (in schools) and word tinkerer (not in schools). Never not thinking about Plastic Man.

i like sff but i think accepting that i like it more the more it is grounded in Recognizably, The World, Where Me And My Friends Live. pastfuturealternate earths yes up to a point but i dont want to hear about a secondary world or, in the sf case, a planet, unless the sentences are Very good(?)

My crank thing – and I’m sorry that I’m still on this like more than a decade later but I think about it constantly – is this comic doesn’t have fucking arcs if we define “arc” as “something that has to happen after another thing that happens”. Pretty much all of it could’ve happened in any order

Just spent maybe 20 minutes on the phone with someone who went from "my husband had a stroke, I'm probably not voting this year" to "Mike Carey did WHAT to Medicaid?" to "wait, that affected you HOW?" to "wait, the system can be better?!" to crying to "thank you so much, I'm voting for Don Leonard"

When Jesus healed the sick, he didn’t ask for a deductible. When he fed the hungry, he didn’t price gouge for a profit. When the Hebrew prophets saw corruption, they spoke truth to power. When I take on this corrupt system, I’m doing it on biblical grounds.

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

I think Snorlax is the best Pokémon from a design standpoint. Simple enough that any child can draw it in her notebook, instantly recognizable, conveys an entire personality and lifestyle, exact right mix of cute and tough for a Pokémon, both strong and honest from a gameplay perspective.

if at any point you find yourself in a crowd of people literally chanting, re: a group of refugees, "let them drown", one would hope there's not a single prior decision or assumption you wouldn't be willing to take another look at, and, if need be, toss aside to save your soul.

www.nytimes.com/2026/09/20/m... I have so many thoughts about the Nikole Hannah-Jones piece above, a follow up to one a decade ago that did more than any other piece of writing to directly change the kinds of things I did and didn't learn in teacher-prep, and therefore my life.

We are still feeling the effects of these 3 movies bombing in the early 2000's. Every single "adults/teens won't watch animated movies" or "No one wants to watch a 2D animated movie in theaters" etc. can be traced back to these 3 movies bombing. I'm being a bit hyperbolic, but also not.

It is very funny -- and/or a sign of how broken TV has become -- that a special built atop a piece of beloved (shudder) IP that proved a ratings smash AND won a passel of Emmy Awards in very competitive categories cannot (yet) branch off into an ongoing series.
