Seeing every small business, be it a local restaurant, a moving company, whatever, all having AI logos and AI ads, really puts into perspective just how many artists are out of jobs now. All those little sustaining jobs where someone just needed a quick thing for $50 to $200 are just gone.

Haven't had any horror movies out in awhile where the ending includes someone dangling over a giant demon mouth that was inside the basement of a house or a school or a church or something. We used to get those once every 2 years or so! Time to bring back demon mouth basements!

I enjoy reading, but 1) I’m kinda slow 2) it takes awhile for me to concentrate on it 3) I’ve read before bed so much that I think I’ve trained my body to start feeling sleepy after reading. So whenever I have to read for work now I just start getting more and more sleepy and that is not helpful.

"Ticking clocks" are the worst thing to get added to movies from the past 15 years. No more "If I don't fix this 2 hours, the whole world is doomed!" What we're looking for is external pressure. An outside force pushing an internal change in a character. That's it. No more countdown clocks please.

Scanners III: The Takeover The best scanners movie? On pure "I'm enjoying this moment and not bored in any way" value it has the most highs and the fewest lows. The first Scanners movie is fantastic, but III is at minimum equal to it and possibly surpasses. I'll have to sit with this for awhile.

Only one animated show in 25 years is a travesty. Also no children's shows being included just continues a pattern we've seen for decades about how children's media is perceived by the industry. These shows are all wonderful! Unfortunately it also feels like every list I've ever seen like this.

Apropos of nothing, in 2023 about 500 scripted TV shows were produced in the US. 120 of those were animated, so about 1/4 of them. Just a thing to think about if you're ever looking at your viewing habits to see if you're excluding anything that makes up $72 billion in market revenue.

I always encourage people to, when they're making "best of" lists, include animated stuff in them. The point is to put animation right next to live action to normalize it. Equate them and don't section it off into its own separate list. Let them exist right next to each other.
