Crypto’s efforts to buy politicians are spreading outside the US. In the UK, over $100 million in crypto money has flowed into Nigel Farage’s far-right Reform UK party, courtesy of Tether-linked billionaire Christopher Harborne and BitMEX’s Ben Delo (pardoned by Trump last year).
Outside the US
The crypto industry's efforts to buy politicians are metastasizing. Some ten-figure donations from crypto billionaires to Reform UK’s Nigel Farage caused outcry in British politics in late 2024 and throughout 2025, as he accepted around £17 million ($22.4 million) across several contributions from Tether-linked British–Thai citizen Christopher Harborne [I98, 102, 105]. The contributions prompted discussion among the UK government over whether to ban large political contributions from British citizens who live overseas.

That conversation has been renewed as the Reform party has accepted contributions amounting to £72 million ($97 million) — half from Harborne, and the other half from BitMEX founder Ben Delo.36 Delo and other BitMEX cofounders were charged in the US in 2020 for violations of anti-money laundering laws; Delo ultimately was sentenced to probation and paid a $10 million fine. In 2025, Delo and the other BitMEX cofounders were pardoned by President Trump [I81].“If you don’t pay taxes, if you don’t live here, you can’t buy your way into our democracy because you’re a billionaire,” said Housing Secretary Angela Rayner in an interview arguing for the Labour Party’s planned legislation. I would argue that even if billionaires do pay taxes and live somewhere, they shouldn’t be able to buy their way into democracy, but I suppose it’s a start.37

Incredible. The 11th Circuit, in a 3-0 opinion (two Obama appointees and one Trump 1.0 appointee), agrees that Trump and his lawyers have failed to rebut the judge's finding that the entire IRS settlement was collusive, highlighting that no other explanation for their conduct was even offered.
IV
The appellants mount two main attacks on the district
court’s speech-related sanction. First, they argue that the court
lacked a sufficient basis to find that the lawsuit and the settlement
were collusive and that Messrs. Brito and Epstein acted in bad faith.
Second, they contend that the sanction is a broad and impermissible gag order which constitutes a prior restraint and violates the
First Amendment. We conclude that the appellants have not made
a strong showing that they will succeed on either of these grounds. The appellants did not submit or offer any evidence to explain their litigation conduct or demonstrate that the lawsuit and the settlement were not collusive. Given the record before us, the
appellants have not made a strong showing that the district court
committed clear error in its collusion and bad faith findings

This is a SMALL version of the largest JWST image released so far—of IC 348, a star-forming region about 1,000 lightyears away. Open up the image and marvel in the incredible beauty even in our galactic neighbourhood. This is what it looks like when stars are born.
From the source: "A star-forming region. It is blanketed in thick clouds of gas and dust, millions of kilometres across, that form swirling patterns. Bright stars are scattered throughout the clouds, with the densest cluster situated in the centre of the scene. Each is crowned with six long points created by the optics of the telescope’s mirrors. In the upper right, a couple of hidden stars blast out long, glowing jets of material."

It sure looks like a. an AI-assisted approach has come close to solving the Navier–Stokes smoothness problem b. OpenAI found a similar solution, possibly from stolen chatlogs c. and pushed one of the authors to remove his Anthropic collaborator from the paper mathstodon.xyz/@tao/1172335...
A remarkable achievement: Alpöge and Buckmaster have managed to push one of the major promising approaches towards constructing blowup solutions to fluid equations --- as developed by Cordoba and Martınez-Zoroa --- to establish finite time blowup for many key fluid equations, including 3D incompressible Euler, with a smooth forcing term. (Previous work by these authors on similar equations could obtain a smooth forcing term for the IPM equation, and a subcritical but not smooth regularity for other equations.) The arguments have been formalized in Lean.

Tristan Buckmaster kindly explained some of the key ideas to me over the phone, which made a refreshing change from AI-based communication modalities. (The arguments do contain significant AI input, although the authors have been working extensively in the past few weeks to rework them into an acceptable form. Unfortunately, they had to release far earlier than planned due to external events, as documented in the accompanying statement.)

The broad strategy of the Cordoba--Martınez-Zoroa approach is to iteratively build up solutions by repeatedly adding small, localized high frequency corrections to an existing solution, somewhat in the spirit of the method of convex integration, except that there is barely any feedback from the high frequency waves back into the low frequency components. Instead, the low frequency components are used to exponentially amplify the high frequency components, allowing them to take over the dynamics at just the right time before blowup for the next iteration to proceed. (1/2)

ah yes once again the racists are the real victims
In an internal Slack message obtained by The Verge, 1Password's Karimov downplayed the overtly racist comments from DHH, telling staff the following:

As I said, people have different personal opinions. You believe in your heart that DHH is evil, that you have the moral high ground, and that nothing will change your mind.
However, not everyone believes that. It is not fair to claim a monopoly and ostracize team members who might disagree with you.

There are people who are afraid to speak up simply because they will be personally attacked.
