Our study on DFCP1 and lysosome membrane repair is live! We uncover a previously unrecognized role for omegasomes in the cellular response to lysosomal membrane damage, revealing another layer of regulation in how damaged lysosomes are repaired. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

DFCP1-containing ER microdomains mediate lysosomal membrane repair - Nature Cell Biology
Radulovic et al. show that phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate (PI3P), produced by the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase PIK3C3, is formed on ER domains after lysosome damage. ER domain PI3P helps to recruit...

The ULK1 complex triggers autophagy on membranes, but with no typical membrane binding domains, how does it get there? See the answer in a brilliant collective effort out now in Science Advances: www.science.org/doi/10.1126/....

Bernal had proposed out the idea for isomorphous replacement in the early 1930s. So, it is not correct to say Perutz had no idea how the structures of proteins would be solved.

Jim Hurley @jimhurley.bsky.social · 22/08/2026
Going even deeper into the history, Perutz was recruited and mentored to solve the protein structure problem by his PhD mentor JD Bernal. Bernal and Dorothy Crowfoot, obtained the first diffraction measurements from a protein in 1934, showing proteins had a structure and that it could be solved.

I am reading "The Lysenko Affair" by Joravsky, who estimated that 5% of non-Lysenkoite biologists in the USSR were jailed, exiled, or killed under Stalin. The rest survived until Stalin's death and Lysenko's gradual fall by keeping their opinions to themselves. Soviet biology never fully recovered.

RFK Jr. rolled out that old chestnut again about how healthy Americans were in the 60’s, so here’s a fact check. In 1965: -42% of American adults smoked; it’s 11% now. -The infant morality rate was 24.7/1000; it’s 5.6/1000 now. -Overall life expectancy was 70 years; it's about 77 years now.
