So if I'm counting properly, all this was for about £100 million/year in financial benefit. There were 4 player transfer fees of this amount this summer in the big European leagues (City paid 2 of those). Beyond the fraud itself, let's think about what this enabled in sporting terms.

An interesting post that I think makes a bit of a category error. Having an intense seminar style course involves extensive reading which required someone to craft those thoughts in writing. There’s a constitutive relationship here that is not necessarily fleshed out. Even the assignment described

Who says they “don’t make enough money”? Compared to what? You don’t need to grant the far right authoritarian party’s premise. You can write that they’re using arbitrary numbers based on no standards that should not be taken seriously, & you can just say that plainly instead of stenographizing

Watched the video for that song everyone's talking about. The song itself is pedestrian, and that's fine; but why does the action in the video *directly* contradict the lyrics? It muddles the whole thing fatally.

Again speaking in the academic case: bad reading is downstream of an audience that does not require good reading. Things that I'd guess contribute to that include: increased specialization (fractures the audience), metrics based evaluation (diminishes importance of audience feedback)

IHE's annual survey of provosts is always worth reading. I'm struck by the responses regarding research funding, where quite a few leaders think they can grow their share of a shrinking pool of funds instead of resetting research expectations. www.insidehighered.com/news/governa...
To make up for declining research funding, specifically, some provosts said their institution is diversifying funding sources (31 percent), developing more industry partnerships (24 percent) and expanding grant-writing support (17 percent). Only 4 percent reported that their institution is reducing research expectations.

Amid all of the funding uncertainty, a quarter of all provosts said they are “somewhat” or “very confident” that the U.S. research enterprise will remain strong over the next decade. Though provosts at public doctoral institutions more frequently reported funding declines of more than 10 percent, they were more optimistic—43 percent said the research enterprise would likely remain strong.

*deep breath* When Northeast US cities were settled they were often located on rivers as far inland as possible, which was usually just below the “fall line” (think Great Falls near DC); I-95 connects those cities and thus runs along the fall line and that’s why the rain/snow behave the way they do
visualcrossing.com
"North and West of I-95" - why does snow in the Eastern US always seem fall to the West of I-95?
Why does it seem like the most snow falls North & East of the large cities of the North East United States?

and there it is -- Trump says that if the Supreme Court doesn't allow him to put his name on the Kennedy Center then it will close down for good
The Board of The Kennedy Center today agreed, almost unanimously, to close the Building for Safety reasons, and so that it can begin the process of Reconstruction. The closing will take place immediately, however, the Renovation and Reconstruction, which is a very large and complex job, cannot begin until such time as the D.C. Circuit rules on the Board’s approved name. If the ruling is a negative one, which it should not be, and is not overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court, the Reconstruction and the Renovation of The Kennedy Center will not take place. The attorneys from the DOJ will ask for an expedited appeal. In the meantime, 17 Million Dollars, raised by President Trump, has been put into The Kennedy Center account to keep it afloat. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP
