It's pretty damn impressive how much ground Mayor Mamdani has been able to cover after only nine months in office on a wide range of basic quality-of-life issues in NYC. I was reading through the numbers this morning, and they're kinda astonishing. (thread)

National is tanking amongst women because women believe behaviour, not words - so I get the desperate post, but this is a lie. A major reason the Bill passed was because women refused to be dismissed, and demanded accountability from politicians, *including National*, who did not prioritise them.
Christopher Luxon post:

Stalking under Labour: Legal.
Stalking under National: Illegal.Hansard: Bills - Crimes Legislation (Stalking and Harassment)
Amendment Bill
Hon GINNY ANDERSEN (Labour)
la like to acknowledge the process to date, and first and foremost I would like to acknowledge two women in particular, and they are Alison Towns and Leonie Morris. Their relentless advocacy in this space is probably the single greatest reason why we are here seeing this legislation pass tonight in the House. They will be aware-and I hope they are watching-that the Government clearly stated that passing stalking legislation was not a priority for this Government.
When they advocated and organised and got over 8,000 signatures delivered to the front steps of Parliament, and when they worked with me to draft a member's bill that introduced stalking as an offence and put that into the members' ballot, we saw a change in the Government. The Government

Whatever beneficiaries get as an accommodation supplement should be what politicians get. If they don’t think it is enough the. They need to raise the benefit allowances. #nzpol If people earning 6 figure salaries can’t afford to live on that then people earning under $25k a year certainly can’t.

@clrenney.bsky.social giving a PERFECT answer. One Labour should have been giving for over a year.
Renney said the lesson to take away from the last Labour Government was that it changed the country for the better.
“We had 20,000 people who are alive and walking the streets of New Zealand because of our response to Covid.
“Anyone who tells you we delivered a poor response to Covid, we delivered the best response to Covid anywhere in the world. We lifted tens of thousands of children out of poverty because it was a Labour Government that made those decisions.
“We built thousands of state houses, because it was a Labour Government that chose to make that investment.
“The lessons that I would take away from the last Labour Government are that when Labour is in power, things go better for this country, things go better for you and your communities, and we should be proud of the 7th Labour government that will do exactly the same.”

When we go into this election, this has to be front and centre for women in NZ. They hate us #nzpol
Pay equity specialist Amy Ross, the former head of the pay equity taskforce, said those briefings exposed what she said was a longheld, ideological view among the agencies: that pay equity was nothing but a risk to the government.
"They never thought about it for what it really was - an evidence-based market correction that had massive downstream benefits for communities - money flowing into households, services improving and the country retaining workers," Ross said.
"They only ever talked about the 'cost' of pay equity. But the 'cost' is women subsidising labour. It's actually a cost to women."

Yesterday I posted about my new web tracker of how often the parliament has gone into Urgency this term. #nzpol seemed to appreciate it and this evening I added a way to see the percentage of bills passed under urgency by each parliament. The results are interesting! See for yourself: nzpt.cjs.nz
A screenshot of the NZPT urgency tracker showing that the 52nd Parliament of New Zealand sat for 251 days, 14 of those urgent, meaning 5.5% of sittings were disrupted by urgency. The statistics also show that the 52nd Parliament passed 283 bills, 83 of which were in some part under urgency, meaning 29.33% of bills were under urgency.A screenshot of the NZPT urgency tracker showing that the 53rd Parliament of New Zealand sat for 226 days, 19 of those urgent, meaning 8.41% of sittings were disrupted by urgency. The statistics also show that the 53rd Parliament passed 275 bills, 80 of which were in some part under urgency, meaning 29.09% of bills were under urgency.A screenshot of the NZPT urgency tracker showing that as of 25 December 2025 the 54th Parliament of New Zealand sat for 154 days, 19 of those urgent, meaning 12.34% of sittings were disrupted by urgency. The statistics also show that the 54th Parliament passed 182 bills, 104 of which were in some part under urgency, meaning 54.14% of bills were under urgency.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy: www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employmen...
Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."
