The NYT is ok with extremist ideology as an anecdote in a profile—but highly allergic to any deeper examination of the ideology itself. No one gets to write an op-ed explaining any of this. That’s not allowed. But a billionaire can drop it in a quote as a passing comment.

The Cornell report on the Future of the American University is a disaster, mainstreaming and endorsing profoundly reactionary right-wing diagnoses of higher education that have no business in a serious report on what higher ed is or should become.

with a similar study of American political science from the Goldwater Institute: Richard D. Kahlenberg

@blanchardphd tweet: I've reviewed my share of manuscripts for scholarly journals. If I thought an author's language was ridiculous (eg, "gender assigned at birth" for "sex"), I might say so, but I never wrote that an author *must* use this language or *must not* use that.

The problem with this entire “talking across difference” approach to politics is that it assumes a shared consensus about democracy that no longer exists b/w the 2 main 🇺🇸 political parties. You don’t need to have lunch with people who don’t believe in free elections, equal rights, & the rule of law.
