@dyamins.bsky.social gave a great talk at the @sainsburylib.bsky.social student symposium. My takeaway: while the "bitter lesson" (simple model, lots of data) might be true for prediction, it isn't how the brain works and cannot "one-shot" tasks like the models coming from his lab. very cool!

I showed this graph in class yesterday on how measles cases in the United States plummeted dramatically after the vaccine was licensed in 1963. It’s not subtle and I could not resist observing: “This stunning design in measles cases was not thanks to vitamin A. It was not due to beef tallow.”

I just tried out Q.E.D. @qedscience.bsky.social on our recent preprint. I'm impressed. It's a little bit pedantic, but overall it identified the keys advances and limitations of the work and pointed me to some missed citations. I'm impressed!
