Don't be fooled! This is NOT a venomous snake. It just looks like one. You're looking at a Giant Dead Leaf Mantis (Deroplatys desiccata), native to Malaysia, Philippines & Borneo. These little guys are masters of disguise. This is their "scary sharp-toothed predator" trick, but they have MORE!

I'm inclined to pick apart the use of "biological" in that quote bc the best case is that he means "gendered". Girls are not biologically inclined to care more about domestic fiction and less about cowboys, we are socialized to do those things. (Did not stop me from watching Westerns as a kid tho)

On the subject of DC history, it's always hard for me to believe that land now part of the National Mall was dominated by the enormous Main Navy and Munitions "temporary" buildings that stood from World War I to 1970.

It's not hard. Both Yglesias moderates and Khanna leftists give MAGA politicians legitimacy because they want MAGA's base. Ossoff simply does not give a shit about the MAGA base, which allows him to speak with fierce clarity about MAGA politicians. He is willing to bet on an anti-MAGA majority.

Three thousand years ago, a Greek potter looked at a bowl and thought: ‘You know what this needs? A leg!’ Clay bowl with leg-shaped handle!🦵😆 Early Geometric period 850 BC. Altes Museum, Berlin 📷 by me #Archaeology
My photo shows an ancient Greek pottery bowl with a rounded, deep body, wide open mouth and flared rim. It has a large handle shaped like a human leg, extending from the left side of the bowl in my photo, bending at a right angle and ending in a flat foot. The bowl has a camel-coloured surface decorated with dark brown geometric patterns, which include zigzags and meander motifs arranged in horizontal bands around the body of the bowl and along the leg. From Attica, Early Geometric period, circa 850 BC. It sits on a light stone coloured surface in a display case at the Altes Museum in Berlin.

Drawing mostly in black ink, primarily in silhouette, of a hen with feathers puffed and hackles raised, facing a least weasel standing on a fallen branch in the grass. The hen's comb and wattle are the only touch of red gouache.
