My mum has always been in most of my dreams. Since she died, I wake up 1-3 times a night, and I'm sure I'm waking up the moment she appears. There are exceptions, but the rare nights of full sleep and mum dreams are always followed by insomnia the night after. Which is why I'm awake at 3:40am.

My fave example of empathy/altruism was a paralyzed girl (spina bifida, probably) who died in the ancient Middle East her teens, but unlike other remains from the same period, had a LOT of cavities. Archeologists theorize they gave her lots of dates to eat, more than anyone else got. Out of love.
