Let books be. Today kicks off #BannedBooksWeek, an annual observation started more than 40 years ago in response to a sudden surge in attempts to censor or remove books in libraries, schools, and bookstores. Sound familiar? Find ways to get involved and spread the word: bit.ly/4yvixbB.
LET BOOKS BE. Various line drawings related to libraries and books, including a hand holding a sign made of an open book that reads "Freed for ALL to Read," a tote bag that reads "Totes Resist" carrying a book, a full book cart with the head and tale of a horse with text that reads "A Wild Ride," and a closeup of two feet standing on a stack of books that say "A Soap Box" on their spines. Text at bottom reads "Protect the freedom to read. Banned Books Week, October 4-10, 2026." American Library Association. ala.org/bbooks

Pretty good rule of thumb: If what you want to write looks like a soap opera or episodic prime-time drama-- you'll have a hard time finding a comic book artist. At least set it in the Old West, a fantasy world, the future, or a historic era. Throw the artist a bone.

I’m just venting because I used an app to put together my layers of a painting and another site flagged the video as AI. Took me awhile to realize the app applied AI upscaling by default. 😑 and idk if that’s the only AI thing it did or not, it’s just the only setting I found for sure.

One of the things I’ve been up to. Say hello to Charter no. 231975, the Haunted Free Library. Just about ready to stuff it full of great books #LittleFreeLibrary #HorrorSky #BookSky #Ohio
Daytime photograph of a rewilded front yard. The focus of the photo is a little free library on a post. The library is shaped like a black coffin with a red interior. A sign on top of its little roof declares this to be a haunted free library. On the ground beside it is a large decorative stone; a decorative Halloween tombstone surmounted by a batwing gargoyle; and a progress pride flag. Close-up image of the top of a coffin shaped little free library painted black. A fixed to the small roof of the library is a black tin sign with red and white lettering. It reads: Haunted Free Library. Take a book. Leave a book. Horror genre only. Share the scares. A small illustration of ancient tomes surmounted by a skull decorates the bottom right corner. The artwork is by Fernando Salvaterra. Behind the library, the sky is cerulean blue. A proud, tall oak spreads its greenery to the heavens.

a nicer non blurry one. I was thrilled they made it with out the cover copy.
Its a Mucha inspired piece of the mane six. All the non flyers are on the ground with Fluttershy just off the ground, Rainbow Dash a tad higher and Twilight among the stars. They all wear the elements of Harmony which I thought went well the the Mucha look.

Big tech paused CA’s GenAi transparency bill AB412 behind closed doors. However, over 3.8 million creative workers have come together to demand transparency! This coalition isn’t going anywhere! Its sponsors, CAA, SAG AFTRA, NAVA Voices & The Author’s Guild have next steps! Here’s what to do👇
AB-412 UPDATE
The Al Copyright Transparency Act
WE'RE NOT GOING AWAY
Artists & Creators Must Have Transparency!
The irony of a transparency bill dying in the dark is not lost on those of us in the creative community.
Big Tech is terrified of transparency. Big Tech, who has fought us every step of the way on the Al Copyright Transparency Act, has now succeeded in getting the legislature to kill AB-412 behind the closed doors of an appropriations committee.
It should be noted that AB-412 was a bill that had no fiscal appropriation whatsoever.
This will be devastating to the creative industries, their IP, and the hundreds of thousands of creative workers who bring billions of dollars to California's economy. Creative workers are struggling, and this very simple transparency bill could have helped countless people. The issue is not going away, and delaying workable solutions for such an increasing problem will only make the situation worse for everybody.
Our coalition representing more than 3.8 million individuals, brought creative workers from every corner of the creative economy together with a unified voice. Our bill passed out of the California Assembly, four committees in the State legislature, and several hundred individuals showed up at every single public hearing to say just how much a bill like AB-412 could help them. This issue is not going away. We are not going away. We are now moving to put our energy towards the next best steps.
Please take a moment to contact Assembly Member Rebecca Bauer-Kahan (916) 319-2016 and Assembly Member Ash Kalra (916) 319-2025 to thank them for their leadership in authoring and Co-Authoring this bill respectively.
Please express to them our request that they bring this bill back next session. Please tell everyone you know to contact them as well.
AB-412 simply affects too many people to simply be swept away into a corner and decided in the dark.
Sincerely, SAG•AFTRA CONCEPT ART ASSOCIATION
NAVA VOICE ACTORS AG AuthorsTRANSPARENCY SHOULDN'T BE DECIDED IN THE DARK.
Big Tech wants AB 412 stopped behind closed doors. A bill affecting hundreds of thousands of California creatives deserves a public hearing.
Call Assembly Members Rebecca Bauer-Kahan at
(916)319-2016 and Ash Kalra at (916)319-2025
thanking them for their leadership in authoring this bill and requesting they bring AB 412 back next session.

Old residence, Ukyo-ku, Kyoto
Framed within the deep shadows of a historic villa in Kyoto’s Ukyo-ku district, this serene view presents a breathtaking study in architectural framing and aquatic-like reflection. The room’s dark timber posts, paper-screened shōji doors, and geometric transom grids form a dramatic, rectilinear border around an open aperture, transforming the vibrant courtyard garden into a living screen painting (gaku-fuchō). Dominating the foreground, a low, jet-black lacquered table (urushi) acts as a dark mirror, catching the exterior light and casting an inverted reflection of the garden across its glossy surface. Manicured Japanese pines (matsu), soft moss mounds, and dense canopies of Japanese maple (momiji) appear doubled, floating upon a liquid plane of deep jade, emerald, and glowing chartreuse.

Architecturally, the scene exemplifies the sukiya-zukuri aesthetic—a refined residential style derived from tea house architecture that emphasizes lightness, natural materials, and an intimate dialogue between interior shelter (uchi) and garden landscape (soto). In the Sagano and Arashiyama regions of Ukyo-ku, historic retreats and temple sub-complexes frequently utilized polished wooden floors (yuka-modori) or black lacquered furnishings to bring the garden’s seasonal shifts directly into the room's shadowy heart. Nestled among the manicured foliage in the mid-ground, a stone lantern (tōrō) provides a classic anchor of rustic permanence, surrounded by the soft, organic contours of pruned shrubs and mossy earth.
