For years, I have prided myself on handing students a one-page syllabus (that includes a link to all of the generic college-mandated information not specific to the course) but AI has finally made me break down and add a second page (inspired in part by some #MathSky posts over the past few months).
anti-AI diatribe (due to length, full text is available in the remaining entries in this thread)

Anthropic says its chatbot Claude is taking over the work of building its own successor
The company said Claude leads 26 percent of its research and development, an indicator of progress toward AI that builds itself without human help.

Defund ICE. Take its entire budget and devote it to a Manhattan Project that can devise and implement sound guardrails for AI, and figure out how to stop what can and should be stopped in the way of superintelligence and recursive self-improvement. AI is far, far more dangerous than immigrants.

Mathematician Bernhard Riemann was born #OTD in 1826. He made deep contributions to complex analysis and number theory, but is best remembered by physicists for his work on the foundations of geometry that would one day provide the mathematical framework for general relativity. 🧪 ⚛️ 🧮

It's difficult to overstate how quickly and thoroughly the U.S. economy would tank if he were to do this, and it's terrifying to imagine that no one in his circle has the guts to explain that to him.

A lawsuit has been filed against Padlet, alleging they share student data in real time to 160+ third parties (including data brokers, Meta, and Google). Padlet is heavily used in K-12 as well as higher education with students who have no choice. Read the complaint: drive.google.com/file/d/1OGPe...

It's unethical to pay for Canvas Lite with student personal information, especially considering the April 2026 security breach affecting 275 million people. Marketing Canvas Lite as a way to skip procurement, district approval, and privacy assessments should be disqualifying for them as a company.

Why can’t there be a tv show like Dancing with the Stars but instead of teaching dancing, experts teach contestants math/science/history/literature/art etc and then they get quizzed and someone goes home each week (not a knock on dwts, I just wish we elevated other things as well)
