I’ve had multiple negative interactions with colleagues at work this academic year about AI use vs. AI refusal. And not interactions that I’ve started. I dunno, I just don’t remember people getting pissed off at me for not wanting to sign up for a MOOC or not using clickers in class.

Omg, yes. Having the to-do list doesn't actually help me much. Making the to-do is what helps me. I can make the list and then never refer to it again, and still do the tasks that need to be done. I might double-check the list at the end, too. Using AI to make the list is actually detrimental to me.

Researchers from the University of Toronto followed students in 18 Tennessee middle schools for two years, from 2024 to 2026. Almost all the students tried Khanmigo at first. And many tried to get the AI assistant to spit out the answer. But when Khanmigo refused and instead asked questions or offered hints, students largely stopped using it.

“We observe how students actually used the AI tutor, and the answer is: not much,” Philip Oreopoulos and Nina Low, the researchers, wrote in their draft paper, circulated by the National Bureau of Economic Research in August. “Seeking help with one’s own confusion remained a choice, and most students declined it most of the time.”

We interviewed 4 public librarians that maintain zine collections and the result is a beautiful 44 page booklet. See and learn how they do it! $10.00 (or $3.00 PDF) from www.halfletterpress.com
From the front and back cover of the booklet:

Public Librarians Discuss Zine Collections

We asked librarians at four public libraries to talk about their library’s zine collection. What advice can they share with zine makers that want to get their work into a public library, or librarians that want to start a collection at their library? Was it hard to convince others that zines are a resource that the library should collect? What collecting models did they follow? How did they build the collection?
