Art Spin is excited to return with one of our beloved bike tours and this time, we're heading back to the Port Lands!

We last visited in 2017, and the area has since undergone an extraordinary transformation. With the re-naturalization of the Don River and the creation of the new Biidaasige Park and surrounding wetlands, this new waterfront destination has become one of Toronto's great success stories and one worth celebrating together.

Join us on Saturday, September 19 for a one-time art experience featuring newly commissioned projects by Toronto-based writers and performers Fan Wu and Stephen Jackman-Torkoff, as well as a dance piece choreographed by Montreal-based artist Marie Lambin-Gagnon, co-presented by Lassonde Art Trail. Stay tuned for more programming to be announced, you know how we like to surprise you!

Inspired by themes of re-naturalization and the relationship between the human and natural worlds, the tour will move through a landscape where industry, infrastructure and ecology meet, before culminating in a unique industrial space for the opening of our curated group exhibition Re-Naturalize, along with food vendors, bar service and music by DJ General Eclectic so we can all celebrate together!

We're not giving too much away just yet, but trust us, you'll want to come along for the ride.ARTISTS

Fan Wu, Stephen Jackman-Torkoff, Marie Lambin-Gagnon, Paul Chartrand, Naomi Dodds, Anran Guo, Suzanne Morrissette, Lauren Schaffer, Matt Trinh, TH&B Collective, and more to be announced.

To bring:

Your bicycle, helmet & lock are essential, a water bottle and snack for the bike ride are always recommended.

RAIN DATE:

For the safety and enjoyment of our audience, Art Spin is a fair weather event. Our official rain date for this tour is Sunday September 20th. Ticket Holders will be notified day-of in case of any rescheduling due to weather. Given the limited resources we are working with, we are unable to issue a refund for your ticket if the event is postponed to the rain date and a ticket holder can no longer attend. Audience members should plan to be available either day.

ACCESSIBILITY:

Unfortunately this event is not physically accessible. Participants are required to ride a bicycle to participate.

Please e-mail info@artspin.ca for more details.

BIKE RIDE CONDITIONS:

Although most of the tour route will be on designated bike trails and city streets there will be some portions that will see us take gravel paths that might prove a bit more challenging to ride on.

NEVER BEEN ON AN ART SPIN TOUR?

Art Spin bike tours are a roving curatorial project that situates commissioned, site-specific works in unique public spaces throughout the city. Each Art Spin tour gathers a large audience on bicycles to visit the multidisciplinary installations and performances in a one-of-a-kind event. With few details released beforehand, Art Spin tours ask you to trust the curators and allow yourselves to be surprised by both the creative programming and the unusual spaces to which they lead you.PARTNERS

Thank you to all of our volunteers, partners, collaborators and supporters who make Art Spin possible.

We would like to acknowledge funding support from the Ontario Arts Council and the Government of Ontario.

We are grateful to the project partners who help bring our programming to you. This bike tour & the Re-naturalize exhibition are only possible through support from Waterfront Toronto, CreateTO, Lassonde Art Trail, Outer Harbour Marina, Toronto Port Authority and AJ Self Storage.

Extremely Waterloo Region coded
Screenshot from Region of Waterloo Street Design Guide:

Horse and Buggy

Horse and buggy routes require key considerations for their interactions with other modes of transportation throughout the Region. Rural contexts such as Rural Connector and Rural Main Street typologies (Section 2) should consider the safety, geometric, and operational need of these users.

The Region’s preferred design approach, which has been informed by community feedback, is shown in the Rural Connector Example 2 typology. It consists of:
• 2.5m-wide shoulder consisting of a 1.5m paved (asphalt) segment beyond the painted buffer line to accommodate people cycling and a 1.0m unpaved (packed gravel) portion. Although the typical buggy width is 1.65m, it was noted by the Region that horses are able to straddle between the paved (asphalt) and unpaved (packed gravel) segments.
• Exposed aggregate concrete finish is preferred for roll over curbs, as it provides grip for horses, rather than smooth finish concrete curbs.
