Introducing Gurpo
A drawing of a small blobby figure inside of an enclosure with string coming off it, with text saying "introducing Gurpo, the new wearable personal assistant. Gurpo is not a computer program, he's a real tiny guy who is trapped inside your medallion necklace.
Gurpo hates you, but is incapable of doing anything about it, and he has to answer your questions or he gets electrocuted. It's non-lethal.
If you shake his enclosure hard enough, gurpo will throw up!"

One of my favourite things about where we live in Ottawa is that we can walk to the local baseball stadium (Frontier League, but stadium was built for the Expos’ AAA team so it feels like Real Serious Baseball Time) & the daytime route runs along the river! City life can be so magical 🥰
A baseball stadium at dusk, looking super dreamyIntroducing the lineup. There’s a big full/almost-full moon rising behind the playersStadium again, this time the game is in session and it’s also darker

Okay so @defector.com has had an odd glitch since the site redesign a couple of weeks back where the wrong photo and headline are often put together on the main page and I was going to ask them about fixing it but this just happened and as far as I'm concerned they have to leave it as is.
Screenshot for a Defector podcast episode with the headline "Consider the Emotional Lives of Scallops" only the accompanying photo is a white gormless stubbled red-headed UK singer of recent notoriety giving a flat smile to the camera while wearing a washed out peach top as beige as he is against a flat background. So, actually, probably a scallop anyway.

I then went to a used bookstore and bought The Way the Crow Flies & the writing was equally beautiful, but man…I don’t know if I’ve ever read so brutal and stomach-clenching a book. Apparently Fall on Your Knees is even more sad so I’m waiting a few books before I tackle that 😅

So embarrassing when people think the point of reading a novel is to know the plot, so a summary is just as good. The plot isn’t important, you rube. You absolute simpleton. The point of reading a novel is to find out what the characters are eating and start thinking about what you want for dinner.

hope the tardigrades on the moon are having a good time
On April 11, 2019, the Israeli spacecraft Beresheet crashed into the Moon during a failed landing attempt.[1] Its payload included several thousand tardigrades (also known as water bears). Initial reports suggested they could have survived the crash landing. We believe the chances of survival for the tardigrades... are extremely high.— Nova Spivack,

My latest cartoon for @newscientist.com
1. The entomology department notice board a sign reads “Employee of the moth: Claire”
(Claire is spelled with an i)

2. Clare and a colleague are scientists wearing lab coats, they look at the board. He says “Congrats, But I think they made a typo.”

“Damn, do they did.” Says Clare

3. Clare in the office, seen from outside “Sorry to bother you boss, but my name is spelled wrong on the poster”

4. Her boss is a human-sized moth in a lab coat sitting behind a desk “Apologies Clare, I’ll get that fixed.”
(Clare is spelled either no i)
