This could be the defining photo of trump's presidency: Melania's misery. The mix of misery and confused fury on trump's face as he wonders in, having forgotten his guests. The contempt on Xi's face is visceral, while his wife patiently waits for this horror to end. As do we all. (with Alt text)
We're looking through a doorway, out onto a balcony. Left to right: a uniformed soldier gestures for Melania, Trump, Xi and his wife to come inside, toward the camera.

Melania is dressed for a funeral with a face to match. She stares at trump. She could be in pain. Trump is walking ahead of the group. His back to the others, has he forgotten they are there? He is staring at the camera as though he's trying to remember the names of all the boys who flushed his head down the toilet at school. Xi is watching trump leave. He looks resigned, contemptous, and bored. His head is tilted to one side as if to say "oh god, what now". Mrs Xi looks toward her husband, her expression is blank and diplomatic. She is waiting to leave.

Those chatbots that everyone treats as neutral, unbiased, reliable sources of information... ? 🙄 Yeah, so the plan is for them to be so packed with ads that they replace the entire ad industry. 😬
Screenshot from the article below:

what hope do they have of hitting their projections four years from now?

To hit that number, AdWeek observes, OpenAl needs three miracles to happen all at once. First, advertisers have to abandon decades worth of infrastructure built around search engines and social media and put all their advertising budgets into chatbots. Once that happens, OpenAl

Presumably you don't think UK would meet the criteria — if so, why not? Or are you suggesting that UK should rejoin the EU, and then immediately block one of its key targets?!
From the European Commission website:

Who can join and when?

All EU Member States, except Denmark, are required to adopt the euro and join the euro area. To do this they must meet certain conditions known as 'convergence criteria'.

An accession country that plans to join the Union must align many aspects of its society – social, economic and political – with those of EU Member States. Much of this alignment is aimed at ensuring that an accession country can operate successfully within the Union’s single market for goods, services, capital and labour – accession is a process of integration.

Adopting the euro and joining the euro area takes integration a step further – it is a process of much closer economic integration with the other euro area Member States. Adopting the euro also demands extensive preparations. In particular, it requires economic and legal convergence.

Lots of awful news from Venezuela... but I'm not hearing about anything the US response? Are emergency services en route? The USA is in charge of Venezuela right now, Trump has named himself "acting President" — so they have a responsibility, don't they? I see no mention of this in the reporting.

It's complicated. Local textile sectors across Africa (for example) have decimated by cheap clothing flooding the market. And a lot of the clothing is tat and just ends up in African landfill. www.forbes.com/sites/dianne...
over 70% of reused clothing from the UK alone ends up abroad, joining the billions of second-hand garments exchanged in the global resale economy each year. The rest are shipped to countries like Ghana, Kenya, and Uganda, where, up to 40% are too damaged to wear and end up in informal landfills, beaches or are burned. Ghana alone receives 15 million garments per week, overwhelming local waste systems and half of this amount is unsellable

Oh this is very good!
CEOs are quietly realizing the Al replacement plan has a problem.
Two problems, actually.

One: the token costs for running Al agents are now exceeding what they were paying the employees they fired.

Two: when the tokens run out, the Al stops. Just stops. No continuity.
No workaround. Just a spinning wheel where your workforce used to be.

You fired humans to save money and bought a subscription that bills you into a corner.

The employees you let go knew what to do when things broke.
The Al just invoices you for the outage.

And then there's the permission problem nobody wants to talk about.
To do its job, the Al agent needs access. Full access. Your systems, your patents, your contracts, your future plans. Everything you spent years building, handed over to a process that has no loyalty, no discretion, and no skin in the game.

You didn't hire a replacement.
You gave a stranger with no soul the keys to everything you own.

Enjoy.

And this was their reply: (NB. for context, I said the "which some would argue" was Trumpian — he always does that "people are saying shtick...) Anyway:
Thank you for your email.

I wouldn't consider that it's "Trumpian" to acknowledge that there is some debate and nuance around a particular subject; rather the opposite, in fact.

The Protocol on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Incendiary Weapons (Protocol III) states (among other things) that it is prohibited in all circumstances to make any military objective located within a concentration of civilians the object of attack by air-delivered incendiary weapons. And it defines "incendiary weapons" as "any weapon or munition which is primarily designed to set fire to objects or to cause burn injury to persons through the action of flame, heat, or combination thereof, produced by a chemical reaction of a substance delivered on the target". It goes on to add that incendiary weapons do not include: (i) Munitions which may have incidental incendiary effects, such as illuminants, tracers, smoke or signalling systems; (ii) Munitions designed to combine penetration, blast or fragmentation effects with an additional incendiary effect, such as armour-piercing projectiles, fragmentation shells, explosive bombs and similar combined-effects munitions in which the incendiary effect is not specifically designed to cause burn injury to persons, but to be used against military objectives, such as armoured vehicles, aircraft and installations or facilities.

So the question is whether white phosphorus is an incendiary weapon or not; and this is by no means established, as it depends on how it is being used. The WHO says that:

The use of white phosphorus may violate Protocol III (on the use of incendiary weapons) of the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCCW) in one specific instance: if it is used, on purpose, as an incendiary weapon directly against humans in a civilian setting. Other uses of white phosphorus, such as illuminating a battlefield, are not prohibited. To establish an illegal use under the CCCW, an investigation into the intent behind the use of wh…

3/3 This is really worrying! ⬇️ If they have realised that we have to remain ignorant about #AI in order to adopt its use... then clearly it's misrepresented, subpar or dangerous, or all three... and we shouldn't mindlessly embedding it into our lives. Article 🔗 www.techpolicy.press/we-need-to-t...
[Screenshot] The inaccuracies incited by anthropomorphic descriptions are likely to have a disproportionate impact on vulnerable populations. A 2025 article shows a negative correlation between people’s “AI” literacy and their “AI” receptivity; the more people know about how “AI” works, the less likely they are to want to use it: “people with lower AI literacy are more likely to perceive AI as magical and experience feelings of awe in the face of AI’s execution of tasks that seem to require uniquely human attributes.” Somewhat absurdly, the authors use this finding as an argument against educating the public about “AI”, as this would consequently reduce their adaptivity. We believe that language is a device to increase people’s “AI” literacy, helping them make informed choices about technology acceptance.

It over-sells a system which is likely to under-deliver, and portrays a world view in which the people responsible for developing the systems are not held accountable for the system’s inaccurate, inappropriate, and sometimes deadly output. It promotes misplaced trust, over-reliance, and dehumanization.

The are scared because the uptake of paid "premium" accounts hasn't been what they hoped.
All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails. They're trying to change our habits, because all of the projections rely on people becoming truly dependent on the technology. Whether or not it's actually a good thing for society isn't considered to be a factor.
They're forcing it on us because if we don't use it, if we don't subscribe to it, buy products through it, or click on ads through it - the debt structure will inevitably implode. It will wipe out billions in unpaid loans. And as usual, the banks will be bailed out, and the tax payer will have to foot the bill. Higher costs, decreased employment opportunities, higher interest rates, and likely another round of sticky inflation. But hey, I'm sure all the big players will have cashed out their stocks way before any of that happens.
