Can you imagine the derisory coverage and outright mockery if any other party with single-digit MPs decided to "declare a General Election" and go on a bus tour? Yet when this outlandish nonsense comes from Farage, it is treated as somehow brilliant. "Subscribe to continue..." No thanks. I'm good.

To see Polanski and Davey jumping on the ‘he’s robbing poor pensioners’ bandwagon is frankly, beneath them. They now exactly what Burnham is doing and why? He’s cutting the TL and replacing it with a double lock to pay for social care. Disgusting politics, no better than the Tories.

The logic works out like this: 1) End of triple lock: you might be a couple hundred quid a year worse off. Maybe. 2) National care service: you won't have to sell the house, the car, and go through pretty much all your savings if you need looking after in your old age.

How is it possible? Because he told a personal, emotive story, sure. But also he told a moral story: using the funds to help establish a care service. It feels fair. And the decision to opt for a branded institutional structure with strong echoes of the NHS makes it tangible.
