My main thought with this article is really need AI takes from outside elite liberal arts schools bubble. “Just have in-depth searching conversations w/ your handful of students and then give each 45 min oral exams!” This has no relevance to most professors or students at most schools in the country

Ah yes, the mind is boggled by immigrants and tourists who don’t want to get abused and thrown into a secret nightmare prison for weeks or months before eventually being whisked away to a country they didn’t come from in the first fucking place. What a mystery!

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

It doesn’t matter because both sides of the aisle have already capitulated to most AI claims and no matter who wins, we aren’t likely to see a push otherwise unless people become extremely ungovernable about it but that doesn’t make the claims true.

These sweeping statements about more work being like software engineering that people realize and “all service work can be automated” immediately hits me as 1) a claim that can be tested and 2) one that hasn’t been sufficiently tested. But they all just blithely accept it.

The policies Miliband has implemented are quite literally the bare minimum and do not on their own do very much, but they are steps which bring the UK much closer to obliging with the plain letter of international law for the first time. Also it is rare to see a politician say the public is right.

For the longest time, ambiguity has circulated on who in the USG under the Biden administration was in favor of the Israeli plan to "temporarily" expel Palestinians from Gaza into the Sinai, and it seems it is abundantly clear that at least Blinken and Satterfield wanted to push it. Egypt said no.
At the beginning of the war, Ahmed reports, U.S. humanitarian envoy David Satterfield suggested moving the population of Gaza into Egypt. Satterfield denied this when asked, but the book strangely omits context from the time suggesting that someone in the administration (if not Satterfield himself) was considering this gambit. In the first week of the war, Blinken tried "to negotiate the safe passage of Palestinian civilians from Gaza to Egypt," only to pull back on the plan when Egyptian leaders said it sounded like a permanent expulsion, according to The Washington Post. Around the same time, the Israeli intelligence ministry circulated a paper that did propose a forcible, permanent expulsion of Palestinians into Egypt, and The Economist reported that diplomats of unnamed nationality were hoping to use promises of debt relief to get Egypt to take in Palestinians.

Good question. At the level of the national party, I'd say 1) categorical opposition to all immigration enforcement, 2) land acknowledgements and other anti-American rhetoric, 3) willingness to countenance explicit racial discrimination in violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (and/or the 14th Amendment), and 4) various minor positions on trans issues.
In terms of what people vote on, I'd say immigration and racial discrimination are much more important than land acknowledgements or trans issues. In terms of the actual future of the nation, I'd say that the ideology behind land acknowledgments -- which views America as a fundamentally illegitimate settler-colonialist entity whose dissolution is the only true path to historical and global justice -- is far more dangerous and damaging.
At the local level, there is some extremism connected to the Palestine movement, which is both deeply antisemitic and deeply anti-American.

what happens next? what always happens. Paramount moves forward, and pays down the massive deal debt with massive layoffs, price hikes, and corner cutting resulting in lower quality products. At which point guys like Newsom, and other folks who pushed for settlement, will be nowhere to be found.
"Golden State Governor Gavin Newsom, who has been advocating for a settlement publicly over the past month, was in “constant contact” with the parties as talks ebbed and flowed over the weekend. Very much aware of the harsh backlash to a settlement that erupted among Congressional Democrats, A-listers like Mark Ruffalo and others as deal talks accelerated, potential 2028 POTUS candidate Newsom is said to have cautioned both sides to find terms that addressed “core concerns” for Hollywood and the state.

“It’s jobs, job, jobs, that’s what this all about,” a source close to power players in Sacramento told Deadline.

Paramount shares are up 9% on the news. WBD gained 10% trading at about $30.50. The deal calls for Paramount to take out Warner stockholders for $31 a share."
