I frequently hear from American DOTs that retractable bollards are too difficult. Like, the city can maintain and operate actual century-old drawbridges but modern bollards used everywhere in Europe are too much.

It’s very odd that we entrust the clearing of public sidewalks (which are part of our transportation network) to private property owners & businesses. We get results like this business that cleared only their walkways & left the rest of the sidewalk covered in snow. #PlowMPLSsidewalks 1/4

50 years ago today, the Dutch Cyclists’ Union was founded in Utrecht. For half a century they’ve been working to make cycling more pleasant and safe, with now 33K members and 1500 active volunteers all over the Netherlands. Creating ‘100% Cycling Happiness’ as the ultimate goal. 🥳 💪 🚲
