People are already putting together some great things in what's shaping up to be my favorite "season" of CfB material in a hot minute.

I’m sure there’s some selection bias in it, but I see so many CfB projects now, and it seems like more people than ever are playing my games. I’m sure Quinns is the main reason for that, but I’d like to think we laid the groundwork for it. The Lands Remaining is arriving at the exact right time.

Four years ago I was in a place to pay for my car with cash, and I did. But it was an illuminating process: the dealership *did not* want to do it. They couldn’t say no, obviously, but they fought me at every step. That’s when I realized they weren’t in the business of selling cars, but rather debt.

“How did you get into TTRPGs?” Professionally? I wanted to pursue a career where you work 60+ hours a week and can’t afford vacations, a home, health insurance, or anything else beyond subsistence. But hey: at least I get to have my creative decisions questioned all the time!

An idea for a future podcast: when adapting a lore-heavy video game (or at least its game style, if not a direct adaptation), you have to pay close attention to which things in the game are the way they are *because it’s a video game.* It makes all the difference!

I’m re-reading Annie Jacobsen’s excellent Nuclear War, the scariest, most propulsive book I’ve ever read. It’s also how I know there’s no such thing as the Illuminati. A shadowy cabal controlling the world would never let Donald Trump be in charge of this.

Whenever I’m on the precipice of making a major decision that’s about my own happiness, I always back out because I think it’s going to get taken away, so why bother? There’s this part of me that thinks I just don’t deserve anything. And so I just revert to doing whatever makes others happy.

At BATSCon, I'm gonna be running some folks through "Squatch Your Step", a Brindlewood Bay mystery I wrote that's set at a Bigfoot-calling competition. But I wanted Suspect Cards, so @rapidpunches.itch.io is bringing my silly suspects to life, like math rock singer Lazlo with his hipster hat.

There's a variant of "rules lite" that's like, sure, there's very few mechanics but the ones that are there *matter*. "Load-bearing rules-lite". I consider Brindlewood Bay rules lite but in a very different way than, say, Lasers & Feelings.

There’s this thing I see some online creatives do where they take a really strong stance against a certain genre or tone or subject matter. I always find that so off-putting. To me it says, “I’m more interested in being seen on social media than I am in earnestly exploring art.”

I’m reading The Farm, a 1984 book by Richard Haigh. Certain trashy horror novels from the ‘70s and early ‘80s (all of which I love, btw) have a mean-spiritedness you don’t really find in any other era. But it’s a *fun* mean-spiritedness. These books find sheer delight in hating humanity, haha.

It’s frustrating how many media people are falling for this “AI is going to kill us all” nonsense. The AI companies are lapping it up because they need us to think they’re making God.

Every game I’ve made has just been a stepping stone to The Lands Remaining, from both a creative and business standpoint. TLR is what I will be remembered for, and it will absolutely eclipse the success of Brindlewood Bay and Public Access. This isn’t hyperbole or hubris. It’s just… true.
