There is a good bit of work to do after a campaign is done. Closing out accounts, filing the paperwork. Recycling lawn signs into mushroom-themed larp shields.
A round larp shield in the process of being made. Two circles of corrugated plastic have been cut out of lawn signs that say “Bethany Andres-Beck for Congress: Rebooting Democracy”. One has been covered in brown duct tape. The other has a door handle on one side and a belt run through two holes on the other.A larp shield leans against a couch in a living room. It is now complete: there is black foam around the edge and yellow and black dots have been added that make it look like a cartoonish mushroom. 🍄‍🟫 Still leaning against the couch, the back of the shield is visible. Wood-grained tape radiates from the center like the gills of a mushroom, and a foam pad in the center is made to look like a mushroom stem.

When I read In Other Lands my reaction was “imagine if someone started writing HP:MOR but knew the terrible protagonist was massively broken and then gave him a deeply endearing growth arc so by the end he was a deeply worthwhile person.”

Ugh ugh, I went to sefaria to find some appropriate commentary to snarkily post about the editorial's author, and that's how I learned sefaria's been AI-botted like everyone else.
The header of sefaria.org inviting me to try a chatbot ("Ask the Library Assistant / Discover answers to your questions, grounded in Jewish sources") presumably so I can save a little time on the whole pardes process.

NEW JWST IMAGE SHOWING GRAVITATIONAL LENSING!! 🌌 gravity bends and magnifies light from galaxies behind massive objects, sometimes making the same galaxy appear over 4 times! jwst found this happening TWICE in one cluster, for the first time!
A massive galaxy cluster, made of many golden elliptical galaxies with the largest, brightest one in the center. Heavily distorted orange galaxies appear all around the cluster, the largest concentrated in a large arc around the cluster's center; these are images of very distant galaxies, created by gravitational lensing. A few galaxies are large and bluish-white in color; bright, nearby stars are the same color.

A bird flying low over water, towards the left of the frame. The subject has brown & ivory mottled upperparts, her wings are out and slightly down, the underside of the more distant wing can be seen; it is ivory with dark brown stripes. She has bright yellow eyes, and a facial disc that is somewhat like those of owls.

A drawing from this evening. Something that might be a bird in flight. I never know, when I start, what I’m going to draw (and sometimes, when I get done, I still don’t). But I very often wind up drawing bird-like things.
Art. Black and white ink pen drawing, made of abstract shapes ands lines, that might look like a bird with a long, sharp beak flapping a wing above its head in mid-flight. The bird needs a name, so will call him Ruthanos. He has a long, sharp beak that looks perfect for spearing fish or hamsters. His wing spreads it above his head, and his leg trails behind him like a dingo chasing a kangaroo (never getting closer, never getting farther). He is dynamic, in the way of a toddler before the first bite of ice cream: on the very cliff’s edge of kinetic catalogs.

God speed, Ruthanos. It’s gonna be a ride.

A storm fades into a blue background. There is overlaying text that reads, "Shelters are available any time of day or night for people in need. Boston's emergency shelters are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and amnesty is in place this Friday through Sunday for people with nonviolent restrictions. Women’s Shelter: Woods Mullen Shelter, 794 Massachusetts Ave. Men’s Shelter: 112 Southampton Street Shelter. During storms, Boston Public Health Commission’s street outreach teams keep their normal hours from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and still help transport people to shelters, treatment, or home." Astronomers estimate that there are 500,000 stars within this #NASAWebb image of Sagittarius C. One of the most densely packed areas lies within the dark, U-shaped region at the top left of the cyan-colored cloud of ionized hydrogen: bit.ly/4zeme64
A funnel-shaped region of space appears darker than its surroundings with fewer stars. It is wider at the top edge of the image, narrowing toward the bottom. At the bottom, a small clump of red and white appears to shoot out streamers upward and left. A large, bright, cyan-colored area surrounds the lower portion of the funnel-shaped dark area, forming a rough U shape. The cyan-colored area has needle-like, linear structures and becomes more diffuse in the center. The right side is dominated by clouds of orange and red, with a purple haze. There are thousands of pinpoints of light, a multitude of stars, throughout the view.

Walmart Family-owned museum hires "Museum Think Tank" founded by investment fund manager David Booth to figure out how to make something museum workers and visitors do not want happen. The question "why do something ppl don't want? isn't asked bc the reason is to strip mine institutions for profit.
Titled Five Ways that AI Can Humanise Museums, the report stresses that AI’s use in art institutions is already underway, yet museum workers often resist it because of concerns about intellectual property and their own jobs. A January survey of 2,045 US adults by the American Alliance of Museums found resistance among audiences as well: more than 70% of those polled said opposed AI use in exhibitions, while 43% expected humans to create all museum content. Beyond surveys, the British Museum’s sharing of AI-generated images on Instagram in January also drew backlash.

We told everyone that programming wasn't the hard part, but no one believed us. The reason LLMs can excrete sort-of-okay code is that sort-of-okay code has been a commodity good for 20+ years. Then, just like now, the bottleneck was understanding what people actually want.
