Somerville residents need your help. On Wednesday, September 30, a fire at 1137-1147 Broadway impacted 32 homes, and left 43 people displaced. Thankfully everyone made it out safely, but many lost everything.

Somerville’s Dual Sharps Kiosks are available 24/7 to anyone and accept all kinds of sharps, including medical sharps like needles, injection pens, lancets, & more. As of late September, the City’s 3 outdoor kiosks have collected 1,727 pounds of individual sharps and sharps containers so far!

The City's Parking Department (133 Holland St.) is closed to the public as of 9:45 a.m. on 9/15 and until further notice, due to a power outage in the area. The nearby TAB building and Council on Aging Holland Street Center are not currently affected by the outage and are open as usual.

The invasive spotted lanternfly has been found in Somerville. Although the insect doesn’t bite or sting, it can cause damage to many trees, shrubs, and vines, and has the potential to impact a range of agricultural crops and products, including grapes, apples, peaches, and maple syrup.  🧵

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has announced the first two human cases of West Nile Virus (WNV) in the state this year. Both cases were reported in Middlesex County. As a result, the risk level for WNV has been raised to “High” in Somerville and other neighboring communities. 🧵
Avoid mosquito bites: use insect repellent; wear long sleeves, long pants and socks when possible; be aware of peak mosquito hours; drain standing water around your home; and install window and door screens.
