Three of the ones for my wallet name are actually me (I assumed it would be zero). Nearly all of the others share so many similarities with something I might have written that in one case I had to open the link and read several paragraphs to prove to myself I hadn't.

I was trying to think of any frequently-winning MH teams that would do a decent job and the best I could come up with is Setec, because they'd know for a fact they don't want to do it.

This is the worst news I have heard in a very long time - what a tragic loss. @helenbranswell.bsky.social was, unquestionably, _the_ best in the field and just a wonderful person. Condolences to her family and colleagues - she'll be sorely missed. www.statnews.com/2026/10/13/h...

I live in a part of the US without HOAs. The parks, community pool, playing fields, bike paths, and woods are maintained by the state and municipalities, paid for with our taxes. And are open to the public. Like a normal place.

The plague had mad effects on tectonic activity, extending the Holyoke Range east and giving new height and sharpness to a 200 million year old retiree of a geologic feature?

(It also had 70-story buildings and a beacon hill mansion with a long curving driveway through a yard behind a gate, so I don’t think it was a science fail so much as a larger “complete ignorance about my book’s setting” issue.)

This is like one of those eye tests except instead of a number in the middle there’s a bird. Impressive camo! (Willet) #birds 🌿
A brown shorebird stands on a gravel road which provides excellent cover. At a quick glance the bird blends in butter a closer look it is clear to see in the center.

Wrong cover of A Wizard of Earthsea shown in Stranger Things. It's the 1991 purple John Jude Palencar cover, not the 1984 Yvonne Gilbert cover. Yes I know there are many sources on the web that say the 1991 cover is from 1984. Those sources are wrong.

Before we lived in a world of easily monetizable low-effort content creation, it used to require a fair amount of work for almost no gain (Bit of Earth notwithstanding). IIRC most of the tinhatteries (SPN especially?) had upsetting con interactions. But that's high effort, low reward.

oh man *yes*. And the cloudiness effect of the background, so the shading made inherent by the binding seems to just add more texture.

I had to stop myself from going on and on. I've never understood why people think it would be difficult to filibuster, when Sendak's use of the limitations of binding and four-color printing is RIGHT THERE.

I don’t know “both” but the rest feels right to me! (Also one of those great moments when I am sounding out yiddish to see if I know the word and realize that oh, yeah, “fahr vass” would mean “why”, wouldn’t it? Germanic language descendant powers activate.)

Ooh! “Maurice Sendak: king of the gutter press”
Detail from one of the two page spreads in the middle of Where The Wild Things Are. The art bleeds across the gutter and Max, wearing a wolf suit and a crown, hangs gleefully from a tree that’s perfectly parallel to the gutter but just far enough to its left that no reasonably binding error could cause problems. The tree’s leaves cut across the page break, as do the branches of another tree to the right, creating an illusion of perfect continuity.

Interviewer: can you explain this gap in your resume? Picture Book scholar: A gap between art & page boundary is a product of mechanical reproduction or binding processes. Creators skilled in the form can overcome or lean into the limitations to create something greater.

Alien? Bird assembled incorrectly? Beeker’s cousin? Nope, just a young Green Heron from an awkward angle. What a (delightful) weirdo #SpookyNature 🌿 #birds 👽
A bird viewed from below so that its eyes look like they’re a little below the beak on either side. Which looks kind of freaky.

Age yourself with a childhood crush.
Derek Wildstar, an anime space adventurer with dreamy 1970s hair, stares into your eyes looking like a beautiful sad lonely boy who can only be rescued by you, viewer. I mean, seriously, there's no better way to describe the glistening lens flare in his plaintive eyes.Jo Polniaczek, wearing her maroon school sleeveless top over a popped-collar shirt, gives incredibly bitchy side-eye to someone off camera, somehow making her dorkass school uniform look like it's just a costume she's wearing before she slips into a leather jacket and brass knuckles.

Economics, but racistly. You can get a generation that’s smaller than the one before, and you can’t pay for the medical care of your seniors. cf. Japan. Very easy to solve if you allow immigration. It’s also just a meme tho. Radcens pick up whatever vibe they see on Twitter.

How (not) to Write about Health Equity-- an excellent satirical article published in @plosglobalpublichealth.org 🧪 An encapsulation of the feel-good, do-nothing approach to health equity; the lived experience paragraphs resonated most. Read the whole article here: journals.plos.org/globalpublic...
Praise “intersectoral and interdisciplinary collaboration” as the panacea. Everyone can collaborate: ministries, health professionals, researchers, civil society, philanthropic foundations, and commercial actors whose business models actively harm public health. Do not discuss conflicts of interest. Do not ask who has power in the room. Oppression disappears once everyone is brought to the table – provided no one asks who owns it, who paid for it, or who keeps poisoning the food.

Once the table is set, invite “lived experience” into the conversation. Invite structurally marginalised people to share their stories. Thank them for their courage. But do not let them decide what should change. Lived experience should move the room, not move resources or authority.
