Pavel @spavel.bsky.social · 18/09/2026We told everyone that programming wasn't the hard part, but no one believed us. The reason LLMs can excrete sort-of-okay code is that sort-of-okay code has been a commodity good for 20+ years. Then, just like now, the bottleneck was understanding what people actually want.nytimes.comOpinion | A.I. Slopware Is Everywhere Now. Nobody Is Using It. (Gift Article)Just because A.I. is revolutionizing coding, doesn’t mean it will automatically revolutionize our apps.1:30 PM · Sep 18, 2026 14466111
Willow @rockshrimp.bsky.social · 18/09/2026↪ Replying to @spavel.bsky.socialwhat people want usually isn’t as profitable as what the people making stuff want people to want… the trick is finding the symbiosis which is why they pay me the medium sized bucks. 282

Bryan Marble @lostmahbles.com · 18/09/2026↪ Replying to @spavel.bsky.socialIt's incredible for building bespoke, doesn't need to be production ready internal/personal apps. Building an actual SaaS or software product people will pay for and rely on is arguably harder than ever because of the slop competition flooding markets 2190

McNeely 🐀 Rat Verified @mcneely.online · 18/09/2026↪ Replying to @spavel.bsky.socialI think at some level there was a shift when coding became easier and more accessible where developers would say "great now that's the easy part. Understanding actual intent and building things as a team is the real work" that people believed it was moving the goal posts and pulling up the ladder 150

Powell @tpowell.bsky.social · 18/09/2026↪ Replying to @spavel.bsky.socialFred Brooks said something to the effect that it’s not that writing software isn’t hard, it is, but knowing what software to write is even harder... in the 70s! It took most until Senior Dev to admit human intersection with software is the true hard part not tech. LLMs speed that lesson up. 030

For some large scale projects, we spent two years developing specifications and requirements before any actual code was attempted. Then there were months of prototyping, and redefining, testing, etc. 011
