New from me: Britain’s graduate earnings premium is falling, cue “too many go to university!” But non-university outcomes are also bad, cue “we must reform vocational routes!” Both miss the point: people used to think education drove economic outcomes, but the economy drives educational outcomes.

I'm not an economist but my back of the envelope math suggests that Anthropic, SpaceX and OpenAI can't all simultaneously sell $30 trillion dollars worth of enterprise solutions to a global economy where the sum total of all economic activity currently adds up to under $120t.

For sure, though the most important change driving the gap is UK productivity stagnating and wages actively falling. Britain is more exceptional than the US here

As an engineering PhD I’d say it’s very likely the baguette. The naan will fall apart with any reasonable application of force, and therefore cannot be thrown as far despite its convenient shape.

If you put a good amount of power into throwing a naan it will fall apart as you throw it. Baguette will easily win as it is more structurally sound and can be thrown with force.

As one New York financier told Financial Times journalist Gillian Tett, new hires who were seen as “AI natives” are turning out to have alarmingly shallow ideas. So much so, the anonymous finance worker admitted, that his firm now actively avoids seeking out AI-literate STEM graduates, and opts to comb through humanities students instead.

It's important that people understand that this is the mechanism by which monetary policy is supposed to work. The final step is 'unemployment will rise, therefore workers will be less likely to ask for a pay rise. Wage growth will weaken, so firms won't need to raise prices to defend margins'

Labour has done a great deal of damage to itself and the country by making “win over a caricature of Reform voters” and “panicked stakeholder management” its only governing priority. Time to make “win over a caricature of Green voters” and “panicked stakeholder management” the aim instead.

An unusual moment of pride in Britain today, the sight of Prince Andrew being arrested showing that here the law still applies to the powerful. Though it is still stunning to me that not a single Epstein client has been charged with child sex offences.
